My point is we need to re-evaluate Tobi’s value as a trade asset or if not as a trade asset, his role to the team.
We all want to just put 3&D guys around Embiid and Harden. Watching the playoffs now, is it enough?
Regarding Tobi’s defense, I think he is a bad to below average team defender. But he’s atleast average to above average man to man defender. Look at the playoffs, the defense is played differently that it can make a ATG caliber defensive player like Gobert a liability. In the playoffs, it’s less team defense and more man to man defense. And this explains why the sudden improvement on defense.
He did well on defense against Siakam
He is defending Jimmy this series (13/31 for last 2 games)
If we make it to next series, he’s gonna defend Tatum or Giannis.
As a trade asset, I’d take the Ben Simmons approach for Tobi. I wont be in a hurry to trade him. But im very much open to trade him if I can get a harden-ben type package.
Why hurry? His value is increasing. Not just because of his play but he’s gonna be an expiring contract after next season.

Im not really aware of our cap situation, but trading him also depends on how much flexibilty you can gain and what kind of players you can sign with that money. Harden's extension is also a factor.

If you can get a good player, sure. But this is Philly. You need to pay 30-40M to get a player as good as Al or Tobi.
What you dont want is clearing cap space and then hoping you sign someone as good as Tobi for $10-20M and they never come at all. And they’re likely (more than 50% chance I’d say) not going to come at all. Would getting another Niang and re-signing Drummond be worth it? A Reggie Bullock type signing?
If im trading Tobi, I want to get assurance (around 80% chance atleast) that I can get a better player in return. Someone like Jerami Grant or Porzingis perhaps (not implying i certainly want them).
Default is, im just holding Tobi. Wait for good offers and roll the dice if those offers dont come.

Jumping at everything and racking up blocks, steals and being in foul trouble by half time isn't a valuable skillset.
Springer is probably the most talented POA defensive player we have in the organization. Reed has potential. Embiid and Bassey are also very good defenders.
Harris -new wildcard. Harden is terrific as long as he isn't isolated on the perimeter. Moves his feet extremely well and is built like a truck. Green is fine. Maxey tries really hard. Niang.. also tries really hard but without Maxey's athleticism. Isaiah Joe really knows how to move his feet. He impresses me on that end, even though he's slight of frame. He also has an instinct for drawing charges which is cool. Korkmaz and Shake. Nothing to be said about those two.
Won't go that far. He's an awesome defender, but you're right he's overly aggressive leading to foul trouble. Plus his rebounding is atrocious.
Combine that w/his total lack of offensive ability, and he's definitely overrated and someone we should sell high on.
