Ayton is a recent #1 pick, young, good resume (aside from last night). he is 100% getting the max from someone.
free agent max is different from suns max (or s&t max)
suns max(s&t max) is 5 years 175 mil, free agent max is 4 years $127 mil
if i am suns i rather match a 3+1 offer sheet for 127 mil.
but imo he takes qualifing offer and becomes ufa next summer; since he was #1 pick he has a really high QO.
hmm interesting situation for the Suns. Either contract would put the Suns in the tax i'm guessing. So if you're the suns, do you want to match his deal at this lower number or get something of value in a S&T?
The QO threat is always out there but no one significant has ever taken it. Just too much risk imo.
suns have 129$ already signed for next season (tax is $149), that is not including ayton/filling out roster.
suns didnt pay tax last year, or this year. any half decent owner would pay the tax for the coming year; wildcard is sarver.
miles bridges extension kicks in, shamet extension kicks in this year.
and they now have to extend cam johnson and ayton.
and now booker is going to be eligible for super max, a 4 year $210 extension.
suns had thier window last year and this year, and if financially willing they can do it one more year. also maybe trade some picks with cam johnson + saric and get an improvement at pf
