He's a FA, and if we have a different FA that wants to sign with us that would be much better for us, we'd be foolish to pass that up just to keep a player like Bagley around. If Charlotte refuses to pay Bridges a MAX deal, and his agent comes to Detroit and asks us to put an offer in.... we renounce our FA's and make an offer for a young all-star caliber guy.
You would need some really out there things to happen, for Bagley not to be resigned in Detroit. You can not leave Cade without that option.
We could literally sign Mitchell and let Bagley go. You acting like he's a foundation piece.

No, im acting like he is a Supreme lob threat for Cade, and seeing as how Cade is the only piece on this team that matters, you build around him, adding pieces, not taking them away. Robinson is NOT a replacement for Bagley.

Unless you have that type of player swapped out, Bagley will 100% be a Piston next year.

Mitchell IS Marvin, adding some defensive awareness (but still not what I’d call “good”) and subtracting all range outside of five feet.

I don’t love Bags, but honestly, assuming he’s at least 5 million a year cheaper, I’d rather have him than Robinson. Particularly with Stewart around, who better get 25+ minutes to continue developing.

What do honestly see Stewart developing into? Aron Baynes? I honestly don't understand the commitment to him. Solid hard nose guy but I wouldn't bat an eye if he was traded.

A reliable three changes his game dramatically. With your defensive center playing a corner on offense, it opens up so many options for Cade. Lob to the 4 (Bagley, Banchero, whatever), cuts from the 2 (Sharpe, Ivey, Diallo), etc.

Stewart, despite his size, is an above average defensive center that’s average on the boards. He’s also one of the better switching centers on D, a tier below Robert Williams and Bam, but very good. He’s fine on that end, tho we need a better rebounder than Grant playing the four when Stewart is out there. But on offense, he’s currently very limited because he can’t just stand in the lob catcher spot, and despite his solid screens, he doesn’t have the hands or pop to do much on the roll. His post game will never be great because he’s short and has limited lift. A three that must be respected, tho… that changes everything.

I’m not saying we should plan on Stewart at center going forward without considering options. If we can get Ayton, I’m fine with him heading the other way. But signing meh centers with our cap space just to eat Stew’s minutes is not a plan I like. Mitch is meh. He looks better than he is because of the blocks and high FG%. He’s an extremely limited offensive player and a block-chaser.

Great playoff teams can go big with a rim protecting, lob threat 5 and they can go small with a switchable center that ideally can stretch the floor some. Longterm, Stew's ability to hit corner 3's is probably going to be a big part of his game. He has a defensive skill set that we can use to compete.
