[*]Screw the Warriors. They were lucky. That old, decrepit team just happened to get healthy at the right time after getting through the piss poor West. I've been saying for a long time that the NBA should do away with conferences.
[*]There's no doubt in my mind that Tatum was hurting in this series. It had been mentioned briefly earlier in the playoffs that he was battling wrist soreness. He's too good to be shooting this bad. He's an 85% career FT shooter and shoots 2-6 in Game5???
[*]The 2019 draft came back to bite the Celtics in the ass. Back then I wanted Jordan Poole. In his two year career at Michigan, he checked all 4 of the boxes in which I evaluate prospects. They passed on him twice. Langford had bust tattooed on his forehead and Grant's skills historically don't translate to the NBA. Williams had to reinvent himself and became the second coming of Jae Crowder. Poole was very effective off the bench.
[*]Injuries and bad calls are part of the game. That said, the Cs bench got exposed. Pritchard (taken ahead of Desmond Bane) was useless. It's apparent the Cs need two quality depth pieces at guard.
[*]The Celtics have little available trade capital. Therefore, they have to go bargain hunting. Based on their drafts, I have little confidence in the their scouting department.
Here are a couple of bargains, off the top of my head, that the Cs should explore.
Jarrett Culver - a dreadful shooter who can excel on D. Think Tony Allen. He's only 23yo and is an unrestricted free agent.
Marquese Chriss - He was just traded by the Mavericks for Christian Wood. He's a cheap expiring contract. Heath has been his biggest issue, but playing 15-20min off the bench can be a big upgrade. He's got skills. He's a great rebounder, and a decent shot blocker. He's not a good shooter but he can pass. He's making $3mil on an expiring contract next season and could be acquired for cheap. He'll turn 25 soon.
The good news is that the Celtics don't need to improve their core - just their bench. So can we please stop the Beal nonsense?
