The one Kings rumor I heard from several rival teams on the day of the draft surrounded a possible swap with the Pacers, who sat at No. 6 and were rumored to be offering Chris Duarte in addition to that pick. My understanding was that when those teams negotiated the Domantas Sabonis-Tyrese Haliburton swap in February, Indiana had little interest in including Duarte at all. It was also well-known how much the Pacers coveted Murray—something the Kings certainly suspected—so trading back with Indiana would have meant taking a different player.
The rumors about the Pacers are always very worrisome. In terms, there never seems like there is a direction for the team. From running it back with the same team back to back years, bringing in Nate Bjorkgren and firing him after one season, going all-in on Rich Carlisle, only adding Duarte and Torrey Craig and making a run for the playoffs, to tearing it down a bit and dropping into the lottery, to a total rebuild (Brogdon and Turner potential trades) to maybe them staying, now this report on Duarte..... i'm a big believer in Kevin Pritchard but maybe he is the one whos got to go next?
Never knowing a direction of the team and not committing to one direction or another, will only lead the Pacers to being stuck in purgatory.
