Why would GSW want Blatche?

I think a better deal for both sides would be for the Wizards to amnesty Blatche and trade cap space for Biedrins and an incentive. Or it might be better for both players to be amnestied.

That's sure as hell not better for Ted Leonsis. People keep overlooking that Ted will have to eat $23M when he amnesties Blatche.

I think it would only be $10 million. If someone bit on Outlaw, I am pretty sure someone will bite on Blatche.

I'm not sure if it has been posted here before, but I've seen it on the Trade Board:

WAS trades: Nick Young
LAL trades: Josh McRoberts

It gets the Lakers another desperately needed wing scorer. It gets us some value for Young (assuming we're prepared to let him walk this summer). McRoberts could be a Nick Collison type of player for us. He's a capable big man on a friendly contract who can stick an open jumper and play intelligently. If we end up drafting a PF this summer, then we can look to move McRoberts for something else. At least we end up with value instead of letting Young walk for nothing.

The Lakers struggled to score 40 in the first half against the Suns today. They got blown out. This would be a good deal for them. They can certainly use Nick and LAL would be the place for him to prosper.

What I would love is to expand this idea and somehow force the Lakers to take Andray Blatche.

It might be "Rashard Lewis lite", but they might take Blatche on if they could deal Walton to the Wizards.

I think the Lakers would jump at a chance to unload Ron Artest, but I think that would be "out of the frying pan and into the fire" for the Wizards in terms of chemistry. Not that Artest is a bad teammate, but the chances of unneeded drama increase without enough production to justify it.

That could work:

Blatche + Young
for
McRoberts + Walton

LA gets a deadly scorer and solid defender with Young, plus a possible reclamation project with Blatche. On LA, Blatche wouldn't feel the same sense of entitlement so he might actually buy into the notion that he has to bust his butt if he wants minutes. A motivated Blatche is still a very good ball player (once he gets himself into shape).

We get two high-character role players, one of whom (McRoberts) is actually pretty good. Both guys have contracts that expire in 2013 so it could position us for a run at James Harden.

How about: Young, Blatche, Lewis, 2012 first round pick (conditionally protected) for Artest, Walton, and Pau Gasol?

Leonsis buys out Artest. If the Wizards get a top 3 pick, the pick because a 2013 unprotected pick.
It really comes down to Pau for Young, Blatche, and a first. That is a steal. If the Wizards add Pau they really just need to sign one FA SG. They could get lucky and draft a good SG in round two as well.

Seems to me the Lakers are really desperate right now. They know they probably won't win it all this season. Maybe they want to rebuild and could use a draft pick. Washington has enough young players. What Washington needs is a solid veteran. Pau is much better than McRoberts, who I do like. This gives the Wizards a legit chance to compete soon.

Lamar Odom is stinkin' it up in Dallas.

How about Andray Blatche and Chris Singleton for Odom?

Dallas has a history of making lemonade out of Wizard lemons. Blatche could be great next to Dirk and he has already played with Brendan. Washington could use the extra roster spot to sign Gerald Green, Edwin Ubiles, or Morris Almond from the D-League.

Odom is in a funk but I think being asked to take a leadership role around young guys would jump start him. Odom is the perfect SF/PF for this team. He can run, rebound, and make shots in the paint. Wall is playing his best and would be the type guard to really make Odom look good.

Dallas is making a play for a max free agent this offseason (Howard or D.Williams). They're not going to jeopardize that opportunity just to acquire Andray Blatche.

Aaagh! No more trades for 30 plus year old players that include our 2012 or 2013 draft pick. Wall is 21. By the time this team is any good, Pau will be past his prime and we will wish we had just kept the draft pick. I like Pau. A lot. He just isn't a good fit for a team that needs at least one more really good draft pick before they start adding veterans.

I don't think reality TV/Kardashian Odom, who goes in a funk when he is traded out of LA, to a really good team in a major market, is the best fit to help mentor our young guys. I also don't want us adding vets until we have secured our lotto pick for this year.

I disagree with you. If this team adds Pau, they only need to add one good FA SG. My guess is Wall has arrived. Pau is a very efficient player who is much better than I think you give him credit for. I think with one player added to Pau, this is a playoff team.

I don't care what kind of mentor Odom is. He can rebound and score at SF or PF. He's not a great fit, but to get rid of Blatche and get Odom is a win.

The point of any of the Blatche for Odom trade variations is that Odom's contract has a TEAM option for next season. If the Wizards could pull some kind of Blatche for Odom deal, they could decline the option on Odom, amnesty Lewis and enter the offseason with an additional $20+ million in cap space.

That is the correct answer.

It's a very good idea for Washington to trade Blatche for Odom, but it's clear that Dallas already has plans for what to do with the money that they free up when they decline Odom's option. And those plans are a helluvalot better than acquiring Andray Blatche.

Also, what Ruz and nate said re: Blatche for Odom. Ain't gonna happen.

Wiz ought to be shopping hard for a sucker with an expiring contract to take Blatche. Maybe someone just over the luxury tax threshold who the Wiz can "help out." Someone who's not going to have cap room in the next couple years.

Atlanta--Blatche for Marvin seems like the best possible scenario. I'd give up Singleton to make it happen because I have zero hope of him ever amounting to much.

That is actually possible. Their frontcourt is very thin. Plus they have TMac and Radman to play the 3. Marvin isn't exactly popular there. Tmac just went public griping about minutes.

Yup. Plus Marvin's got 1 year less on his contract than Blatche.

Guys--no one wants Blatche. NO ONE. He isn't getting traded, unless it's for a contract as toxic as his.

We should accomodate Marvin and trade for him. He's not great by any means, but at least he can make an outside shot.

We should also make a move for Roddy Beaubois. He would probably be a nice addition as a backup swing guard.

There are some good players available if we choose to nab them.

Hmm I wonder if Young and Blatche for Williams would appeal to them. They seem deep at SG, but Tmac or Joe Johnson can slide over to SF to take over Williams' minutes.

Williams doesn't seem like he will ever be anything special as a scorer, but it looks like he is at least competent as a shooter. If you are expecting him to live up to the potential of being the 2nd pick, he will be extremely disappointing. I think he might be like Joe Smith who was a bust as a number 1 pick, but not too bad as an actual NBA player.

Marvin isn't that good but he is way better than Singleton/Lewis. Plus i could see him being more aggressive here than he is there. When JJ has been out Marvin has had some big games, attacking the basket a lot. I remember he got to the foul line 20 times one game when JJ was out.

Even though I think his ceiling is pretty low(solid starter). I think any combination of Young, Crawford, Singleton and possibly Seraphin would be worth turning Blatche into a solid player who can create a little space.

Yup, adding Seraphin might help entice Atl because they need depth at center. I believe Seraphin was picked with the Atl pick acquired in the Hinrich trade. And even if Marvin isn't a premium player worthy of once being the 2nd pick in the draft, his skills fit the Wiz needs very well - a young physically talented player capable of hitting a high percentage of 3's and playing solid defense.
