Re: 23-24 Stat Tracking
In the last 6 games Joe Ingles has a 126.8 ORTG. The next highest ORTG on the team in this period is Fultz with 112.9 ORTG, and that was from the one game he played before his injury. After that is Cole with 110.6. This is a huge gap. And we have had an atrocious 90.0 ORTG in the minutes Ingles have been on the bench in these 6 games.
Overall in this period Ingles has an incredible +36.9 net rating.

Ingles has been an offensive savant. Amazing what kind of impact he's having.Bergmaniac wrote:In the last 6 games Joe Ingles has a 126.8 ORTG. And speaking of Ingles' offensive impact, the lineups where he plays with Paolo have been killing it offensively: 128.6 ORTG in 104 minutes. And it's even higher when they have played without Cole (135 ORTG). Amazing impact, especially with his shooting still being well below his normal standards.

Ideally, IMO, (Ingles might agree) his lessons rub off on our young guys quickly and Ingles becomes a very attractive trade piece for a contender. This is what I always thought RoLo's plan was...enjoy yourself, show the kids how it's done, take them to school every once in a while to remind them how far they still have to go, and then, when the time is right, we'll send you to a contender.
I'm fine with keeping him, but, big picture, i'd rather see his vibe rub off on Franz/Black/Paolo, etc and they replace him with a fond farewell. His contract, like most of ours is attractive. His impact is REALLY significant - if sometimes invisible...he could be the kind of under appreciated sweetener that Thibs appreciates enough to move Quickley for Cole, IMO. NYK fans cry about the "downgrade" but seem surprised that they don't miss a beat heading into the playoffs.

Paolo in no way, shape or form would benefit from playing with a playmaking point guard. That is nonsense

Unlike the crazy hot shooting start with Vuc, Evan, AG this actually feels sustainable. Defense is legitimate although it will probably falter with 3pt teams like Indy.

Re: 23-24 Stat Tracking
I'm curious what the average record is for teams with the best defense. Like, if all you know is that at the end of the season the team has the #1 defense, what's the most likely final record? I'm going to check this later but my guess would be high 40s, low 50s.Ralof wrote:Best D in nba after 12 games, that's definitely something

I only remember almost every top 6 defense made the playoffs in the last 30 years, unlike some top offenses. Washington missed the Playoffs in 2021 with the 3rd best offense & worst defense.
2020/21 Lakers are maybe a good example of our current situation. Best Defense but only 24th best offense and they finished 42:30
Only other bad offense in the last 10 years are the Paul George Pacers in 2013/14 with the 23rd best offense & No.1 defense (54-28 record) & in 2012/13: 20th offense (52-29 Record)

Can you post where anyone on here has said that?
Your problems are the options you have given (FVV) the team passed on and the other options suck. You want what you can't have and you can't accept it.

There have been several people in other threads suggesting that the Magic don't need/shouldn't look to acquire a point guard because force feeding Paolo and Franz all these on ball playmaking reps is ultimately good for their development and good for the Magic overall in the long-term regardless of how bad it looks in the short term.
I personally don't agree with that, but let's not pretend like that's not being said.

Nahhhh Post it. I've never read anyone saying that. Post where someone has said the team doesn't need a point guard.
The options are either bad or unrealistic. Most have said the team should wait and see what they have and or that the team isn't even ready to make such acquisition.
There are others who have said the offense the coach is running is responsible for force feeding Paolo and Franz.
You are touchy when it comes to the topic because it seems the team isn't giving you what you want.
I posted a trade proposal on the trade thread that is the only one I could find that addresses some of the issues without compromising the development of the youth. A realistic trade and I heard crickets.
Vanvleet is gone.
Lavine isn't a PG and they just beat his team twice without a healthy team and he makes 37 per.
Who else is there?
What if the team has a different plan that you're not privy of?
I even asked you to list some trade options and you declined to answer.
You want a PG who can shoot and cut down on turnovers and run PnR I gave you Monte Morris. I scoured every roster.. and that's the only guy that might be attainable that I could find that is actually a good player with playoff experience who wouldn't disrupt shot distribution and wouldn't get in the way but would provide what you're asking for.

Cole FTrate at .45 this season. Up from .28 last season.
Franz RPG at 5.5, up from 4.1 last season.

I’ve noticed Franz has improved his rebounding this year. Used to be mentioned last year now no one mentions it.

Re: 23-24 Stat Tracking
A review of all games to date shows that the list of teams' star players who have played well statistically against the Magic is very small:
LB James (in 1 of 2 games played)
Paul George
Luka Doncic
Trae Young
and one non-star had a great night:
Spencer Dinwiddie
In all other games and with all other players/stars, Orl has done a tremendous job in limiting them.
The players above who have managed to do ok against the Magic defence are all highly intelligent, multi-headed offensive monsters. It's a sign of just how well this defence is doing.
Orl is 3rd in overall adjusted Drtg
2nd in length of Opponent possession
1st in Opponent Turnover %
3rd in Opponent OR%
5th in Opponent Rim%
5th in Opponent 3pt%
2nd in Steal %
11th in Blk%
2nd in Opponent Assist %

#1 in DRTG and #1 in FTrate.
Its a long season, but this seems impressive. Would love to know what teams, if any, throughout the past 20 or so years were able to achieve this. If anyone can find that information, please share.

Just looked it up and the Magic is on pace for 2272 FTAs this season. At north of 27 FTAs currently, the last time the Magic took 25+ a game was the 2006-07 season.
Also: the Magic is on pace for 984 offensive rebounds. The last time the Magic eclipsed 900 was also the 2006-07 season.
