$107 Million is the cap hit if they decide to trade or cut him this offseason.

$85 Million is the number in 2024.

They are literally married to him for the next 2-3 years at minimum. Moving him would incur a huge financial burden.

In 2026, that number drops to $31.2 Million.

pretty sure wilson deal was done before waltons bought the team

since they havent fired paton (yet) they must have faith in him to turn things around

The team was sold after the trade. But prior to his extension ($250m), which they approved.

Paton obviously hired Hackett because they thought it would lead to them getting Rodgers. Then made the pivotal mistake of pulling the trigger on Wilson. Thought he would fix everything. While completely ignoring the fact that his athleticism was declining & was not a good fit in that offense.

I don't see how he survives this long-term. He's probably there in the interim. Then will be out the door when they find his replacement.

they werent going to not extend him after trading all those picks, kinda like how seahawks extended jamal adams, once you give up multiple first rounders you practically have no choice but extend. both deals look terrible now.

ramsey deal might be heading the same direction but at least rams got a super bowl out of it.

I was talking about the GM.

I thought you were saying he got his job by nepotism.

If that GM endorsed giving Wilson the extension, that's a big mark.

The GM will probably be out the door unless he's able to smooth things over with the new owners. Typically when ownership/management changes they like to bring in their own people. So his days could be numbered.

Paton might also have a good working relationship with Elway. Which might save him his job.

Wilson reportedly asked the Seahawks to fire Carroll and the GM.

Wilson has denied it.

On one of the ESPN talking heads show this morning, someone, forget who, said that Russell's HoF case was marginal before last season.

That doesn't seem to be the consensus view, at least as I remembered it from a couple of years ago.

Maybe colored by the poor season last year.

But the idea is that Wilson still has work if he wants that HoF label.

Wilson is suppose to be having a bounce-back season.

His completion percentage is over 66% this season, much better than the career-low 60.5% last season.

He already has 24 TDs, more than just 16 TDs last year. He's got 8 interceptions so far instead of 11 last year.

But his yards per attempt is a career low 6.9. So he got his percentage up by dinking and dunking?

As far as his weapons, I don't know how they compare to the WRs and TEs he had at Seattle. Jeudy is suppose to be good but maybe not as good as Metcalf or Lockett.

I haven't really watched him, don't know if he makes as many plays, extending plays and getting a lot of explosive plays like he used to. Going by his yards per attempt, probably not?

OTOH, he's rushed 76 times this year compared to 55 in 15 games last year. With Seattle, he was around 100 or well over 100 rush attempts. Most of those seasons were his first 4 seasons and the first 5 out of 6 seasons of his career.

Until this game, the Broncos had some hope of making it into the playoffs, after the poor start they had. Their win streak seemed mostly built on defense and running game.

For the money he's making, he would be expected to produce some explosive plays? Even if they got into the playoffs, they're going to need them because they're probably going to be a lower seed.

Not even close. Jeudy isn't that great of a receiver. Sutton is decent. But he's more of a contested catch guy.

He threw a couple of 50-50 balls to Jeudy which didn’t come close to being caught.

As it turned out, better to work the ball down the field to tie the game.

Jeudy isn't a 50-50 guy. That would be Sutton. But he was out. Denver currently just doesn't have a ton of difference makers on that side of the ball. Javonte Williams doesn't seem to be the same player since the injury. He looks like he's moving in quicksand.

More likely is they pay a 2nd round pick to trade him to another team.

The Texans have done it before with Osweiler.

EDIT: Broncos country, let's ride the bench.

No one is taking that contract.

I could be wrong but I think the receiving team would only have to take about half the remaining guaranteed money.

Denver is on the hook for all of the guaranteed money. The team who trades for him would be on the hook for his base salary.

That's still a good chunk of money. Denver is going to have to release him at this point. Unless he agrees to restructure it.

Yikes! They might be able to dump Wilson in 2025 if they designate him a post June 1st cut. They would be able to split the $49.6M cap hit.
