I’m not a fan of these jinx threads. Wait till the end of the season.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Brunson signing, Donte signing, cashing in RJ and IQ for OG...i think the talk is warranted, but as someone said, it's probably best to let things play out.

I really don't know what qualifies somebody for Executive of the Year. Is it really on a "by year" basis?
If so, there's a chance Leon gets it if the Knicks continue this streak and finish 2 or 3. The turning point would have to be the OG trade (where a lot of people scratched their heads at the Knicks sending RJ, IQ, and a pick in return). You would have to say that all started with Leon going against the grain.

I don't remember, did he not get any talk? Team went from 37 to 47 Ws. I'm not sure if signing Brunson was enough to win the reward, but he should have still been in the talks.
And maybe trading away picks for future picks might be frowned upon for this reward compared to making a draft pick.
I get why the Kings' Monte McNair got it with them going from 30 Ws to 48 Ws. Was pretty unexpected. And I think Mike Brown won Coach of the Year in his debut year with the Kings (hired by McNair).
Pretty high expectations for this reward tbh. Also, seems you have to get lucky with timing (like coaching hires).

Everything Tierney said is a fact. Knicks went from a disorganized mess to the picture of stability when Leon Rose took over. First thing he did was bring in Thibs and established an identity for this team. Instead of trying to quick fix, he kept building up piece by piece. Used relationships to his advantage between himself, the coach and the players to put together a team who plays for each other and not themselves. The only hiccup was the Fournier and Walker signings but he was able to pivot away from that fairly quickly. Young guys have developed and became useful players on the court and as assets to find better pieces. Everything they do has a thoughtful reason. In Leon we trust!

Exactly.
We know that the IQ/RJ and OG trade was already discussed early in the summer and therefore Devo was signed. Whether it Devo or Grimes was going to start was a matter of moving around two highly interchangeable 2s.
This plan was likely drawn up last year before the season, given IQ's pending contract negotiations. It's turned out rather brilliantly.
That's all Leon and his elite front-office team.

Holding the 3 seed and a game back of the 2 seed is some pretty impressive team building. We were a 21 win team the year before we hired Leon. In the 3.5 years since:
2020-21 41-31 1st rd playoff loss
2021-22 37-45 no playoffs
2022-23 47-35 2nd rd playoff loss
2023-24 31-17 and counting
We had the Amar'e/Melo years that were mostly stressful but, 54 wins and a second round beat down wasn't a bad season overall. Other than that this is the best team since 1999 so far. Leon has done an amazing job erasing the stench of failure of the last 24 years. Executive of the millennium around here.

The Donte contract literally might be too good. He's so good, it's so cheap, and it's got 3 years left. It might be the best FA deal in the NBA, and if not it's second to Brunson. I can see every team the Knicks engage in a star trade with insisting he be included in the deal. Like, if it comes down to it for Donovan, do the Cavs ask for 5-6 1sts and 2 swaps OR Donte and 2-3 1sts?

barring severe injury, next season is the last we will have jalen brunson at a price anything below max. he will def decline that 4th year player option, as he could easily double it. we gonna have to have max extension talks.
so, we have some big roster construction decisions to make sooner than later.
