He's absolute fools gold, he gets a year of OK defense out of a team and that's it.
Give this roster to a top tier coaching team and it's a contender (a fringe contender, but one nonetheless).
I can't believe Kidd has so high reputation around the league as a coach, he was a great basketball player but he always failed like coach.
Good first year and after that a disastrous decline... Every single time, Bucks and Lakers were smart enough to fire him. We don't.
With whom does he have such a high reputation as a coach? Everything I've seen says they couldn't wait to get rid of him in Milwaukee.
When someone says, "to make a long story short", it's usually too late.

Re: Mavs coaching discussion
You reap what you sow...
Jason Kidd should've been fired in May last year, everyone blamed the collapse on the roster, which wasn't good, but it wasn't bad enough to miss the play in, Mavs lost games against bottom feeders simply for utter lack of effort.
He then should've been fired in January, the team was losing easy games and failing to execute against scrubs, now the roster wasn't as bad as before, and we see coaches get more from lesser rosters.
We are now in March, too late to make any change and the team is in a downward spiral, the atrocious defense is back, no matter who you put on the floor, any team walks into Mavs homecourt and spanks them with little resistance.
The FO is bad enough that they went into the season w/o a worthy lead assistant as a backup plan if they need to fire Kidd, you're left with Dudely and Sweeney.
I'm at the point where I no longer care, I'd fire Kidd now, but this is on a very short sighted and careless FO that allowed things to reach this level, I hope the ruthless new ownership steps in and cleans the house.

I mean all friendships are traded away for Kyrie already. Brunson-DFS-Dinwiddie were doing good with Luka for sure.
Coach Bud is a solid coach, though he is not good at playoff adjustments. I dont know, Kyrie had like 4-5 coaches in last 6-7 years and his teams epically failed each time.
Having Bud may force to trade kyrie away so that'd be a plus. I mean we need a better-fitted roster around Luka and its hard to find the required pieces without someone getting value out of trading kyrie.
Kyrie trade is not a disaster so far (yet).

Kidd needs to start Exum and Gafford . These guys are ALWAYS hustling . And Luka needs to move the ball himself ,teamball starts with him.
The rest of the Mavs are asked to play defense only while Luka and Kyrie are the only ones to touch the ball on offense .You got to let the "others" have some offensive fun during the game to get effort on defense.

Nets-Bucks-Lakers-Mavs and everytime he coached a good teams.
Avery Johnson (Who was throw out of NBA early) is not worse than him.

Locked On MAvericks is the most FO/team friendly podcast, because they get access to the team, and they can't ruffle any feathers, and even they took off the gloves...

He's not wrong...yes ,a team needs Players to be the leaders, bit the coach should be the ultimate laeader/example...Kidd never shows his emotions(happines or Anger),never stands up for his Players and never takes on responsibility...he stands by the sidelines watching the game like he's on some meds... you've Got nothing to lose now if you fire him....he lost the team, they seem to be fed up with him,his inability to coach ,try someone new
Bring in Bud,Kokoškov, some defensive coach...keep Shamgod and Dudley, the rest of the staff can go

I never thought KoKoskov got a fair shot at being the HC. I think Luka and Exum would really be open to play under his Leadership. Kidd doesnt have the heart to sit Maxi and THJ down as the HC. But a HC has to make tough decisions and Kidd doesn't.

Kokoškov is great, he did an amazing job by winning the European championship with Slovenia...with that being said, I think he's Best as an assistant in the NBA...NBA is different than Euroleague, Players have a lot more power, stars run the show....Blatt was an amazing coach, yet he got canned by Cleveland(LeBron)...Obradović who's probably one of the Best coaches in the world wouldn't be able to coach in the NBA,Players would hate him

WCF team lost Brunson but it was still hanging around the 4th seed.
* Kyrie team tanked from 4th seed to 11th seed.
* His second year, Mavs spent 3-4 first round picks to build around but we are 8th seed.
I think we can call it as a big failure already. Any success that comes after this is probably more related to Lively/Green development, the Gafford-PJ trade, 2024 summer moves and the new coach.

Coach should make tough decisions but sometimes coaches should also stick with low-performing players to not lose his players' trust.
If you put players out of rotation based on short-term performance then they lose their trust in you. That being said THJ is atrocious and shouldn't play.
Mavs team made all-in moves. Trading Kyrie, extending Kyrie, new trades with lots of 1st round picks and swaps.
Only move left for the current timeline is replacing Kidd. But its risky for Nico and Cuban. If the new coach doesn't work then they'll be blamed for the trades, Brunson **** up and more.
If Luka is smart he should ask for a trade. Knicks, Thunder have tons of picks. Thunder with SGA would be finals contender for next 5 years easily. Knicks would become a contender as well. I bet there would be other teams willing to give all picks and swaps for Luka as well. Lebron **** teams up as he didn't even get traded and left teams dry. People still talk him as goat candidate. If Luka is smart that is the way to go...

"SHOULD" Kidd get the boot ,the next coach will be someone Luka knows and approves of. He has to be someone Luka respects and will listen too. When the best players in the world ( Luka,Giannis,Jokic,Embiid ,Gobert)have got their start on the International level ,why would they not play that much harder for a respected International coach. Also to add to this ,6 of the projected top 15 1st round picks in this yrs draft have their roots in International basketball. Igor Kokoslov could probably get Luka to get even better as a player just by coming from the same region that Luka has come from.

More Dallas media members publicly calling for Kidd to go. This is going to get very heated if Mavs don't start winning real soon.

What you said was not wrong. But keep in mind the expectation on Kyrie should be very low. As long as he plays and not causes drama, I am already content. LOL

I wish the new Mavs owners were more interested/invested in winning, you know like Balmer or Ishbia...sadly, I have a feeling they have other priorities in mind(the legalization of gambling...a new Casino resort)
