This came out of left field. Didn't think UK would get out of paying him whatever he owned for the next 4 years. Cal hasn't done anything in the past 4 seasons so this is good for both sides unless sanctions are coming.

Donovan could be a dark horse candidate for UK given history and current situation.

I don't think he's even a "dark horse candidate". He might be Option A and there are rumblings he's interested.

Kind of rooting for Donovan to leave just because it would force that worm AK out of his hole to look like a moron in front of the press again.

With the transfer portal thing (which sounds like a video game to me), and the absurd re-alignment of the Big 10 and other conferences, I don't have a damn clue what's going on anymore with college sports. Arkansas, Cali? Really?

The going to Arkansas part of this might be out of left field but Cal being done at UK is not. The natives have been restless with Cal for awhile now. Pretty sure Arkansas will be Cal last stop. If sanctions are coming, why would Arkansas want that baggage?

I know a faction of UK fans wants Nate Oats from Alabama but he just signed an extension with a prohibitive buyout right as the March Madness was beginning. So he(Oats) will not be an option. So I hope they turned their attention, like most Bulls fans also hope, to Billy Donovan.

Were they restless enough to buy him out of his contract?

With all that talent he had at kentucky he will go down as the biggest underachieving coach in all of basketball of all time. Its crazy that he made the hall of fame before Billy Donovan. Donovon is a meh nba coach but he is a great college coach

Whatever. No new coach is going to do anything better with this nonsensical roster. Nothing matters except the only thing that matters, and the only thing that matters ain’t gonna happen.

It’s Kentucky. It’s one of the biggest basketball jobs on earth. Not to mention he took his shot at the NBA and is now stuck in the most dead end job in the league. He’s got no reason to hang around anymore unless he simply prefers the NBA. Which he might.

But I could see this being extremely appealing to BD on multiple levels.

As for Nate Oats, if that’s who Kentucky wants and he wants the job, Kentucky will pay his buyout.

One and done stopped working with the new transfer rules. He still has a top 3 recruiting class each year but when your starting 5 is all freshman and sophomores you aren't going to win much. Coach K went from 1992 to 2000 without winning anything and then from 2000 to 2009 and he is the greatest coach ever. You aren't doing a 7 game series one game can get fluky.

Billy is making $6 million per year in Chicago, while Cal was making $8.5 million at Kentucky. So there's that consideration too.

The only issue is i think Billy didn't like recruiting and that was before NIL money was a thing.
