Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Trading the pick has always been my #1 option.
I would love to trade back for an established player from the Pelicans and we swap draft picks.

Our pick for both New Orleans picks (currently 14 and 22).
Our pick for OKC's pick #12 and one or two of their future picks. (they own like 20 of them)
Our pick for Utah's 8th pick and one of their future picks. (own a bunch of them).
If going this route, I’d prefer trading down for 8th and a future pick. That way we still get a player worthy of development (one of Cody Williams, Ron Holland or Castle should be available). Accumulating picks in a weak draft (New Orleans idea) is tempting, but with a team full of young players…I don’t know. Yeah, you could nab a decent guard at 14, maybe Edey or another big at 22, but an even bigger gamble overall.
Also regarding Edey…is he better that Nick now, or does Richards still project as the more NbA capable back up? I’m not sure, but I know Nick has a better motor and more mobility. Edey will be a load on the blocks, but I don’t see him expanding his game beyond everything we’ve seen already.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Say the Pelicans want to move up and take Topic. They been searching for a pg for years.
What would you want from the Pelicans?

No way Pelicans FO is dumb enough to add a non shooter PG with Zion and Ingram
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
As fans we naturally overvalue our assets and undervalue those we want the Hornets to aquire. If we get a top 3 pick in this weak draft, who covets any of those players enough to give up a quality starter that’s not ancient in age or overpaid? I don’t see it happening…yet. Once workouts begin some player or players might catch fire and tempt desires beyond reason.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

A more interesting conversation is what does our top 5 pick and a signed and traded Miles net us?

Well **** I don't know, but I'd like to think about the player it could get to pair with Miller and the shadow of Melo

Say the Celtics come up short again from a championship. They just signed Holiday to an extension. They are pretty much locked in with their big 4 Tatum/Brown/Porzingis/Holiday. Maybe they decide to trade Jaylen Brown to round out their roster.
Would you do Bridges/top 5 lottery pick for Jaylen Brown?
Melo/Miller/Brown/Williams/Mark

Jaylen Brown is going to command a lot more than Miles and this year's pick. He's the guy you offer Miles, our 2024 first and the Mavs and Heat picks for, not Lauri. That's still probably not getting it done though.

I was factoring in his supermax contract. But yeah you're probably right it would take more than Miles and our lottery pick.

Brown is the kinda guy you Miles, Mark, our first and the mavs pick for. That doesn't even get it done.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Kevin Pelton ESPN+ analytics guy has posted his WARP (wins above replacement player) Projection Ranking.
For me the biggest pleasant surprise was Johnny Furphy at #8 ahead of Topic, Castle, Buzelis and Holland.
Some highlights:
1. Clingan
2. Sheppard
3. Sarr
4. Edey
5. Risacher
6. Walter
7. Dillingham
8. Johnny Furphy
9.Topic
10. Castle
17. Buzelis
19. Holland
ps if you don't get ESPN+ and want to see quotes I did not post here about other specific players just ask
For me the biggest pleasant surprise was Johnny Furphy at #8 ahead of Topic, Castle, Buzelis and Holland.
Some highlights:
1. Clingan
2. Sheppard
Although Sheppard's 52% 3-point shooting (on a robust sample of 144 attempts) is regressed down to a projected 39% as an NBA rookie, that's still the best projection for any player since Doug McDermot in 2014. Sheppard's projected 2.5 steals per 100 plays, second among players in this year's top 100, is almost as impressive as his shooting. Thanks largely to those key skills, Sheppard has the best stats-only projection in this year's draft.
3. Sarr
Sarr's stats-only projection is slightly better than the median No. 1 pick in the past 12 drafts.
4. Edey
5. Risacher
6. Walter
7. Dillingham
8. Johnny Furphy
For a freshman wing, Furphy's .609 true shooting percentage was terrific, and more the product of sustainably high 2-point accuracy (64%) than a 3-point hot streak. Furphy's form suggests he could improve on his 35% 3-point shooting as well. Add in good size (a listed 6-9) and Furphy could grow into a multi-positional threat.
9.Topic
Topic could improve his projection if he can return from a knee injury suffered in early January just after joining EuroLeague side Red Star. Topic shot well inside the arc in his first extended action in the Adriatic Basketball Association while on loan to Mega MIS, making 67% of his 2s, but his stats-only projection is held back by poor 3-point shooting and low rates of steals and blocks.
10. Castle
From a statistical standpoint, Castle's 27% 3-point shooting is something of a concern, but he was solid at the free throw line (75.5%) and shot well enough from 2 (54%) to be reasonably efficient anyway.
17. Buzelis
19. Holland
Holland was productive in the 29 games he played across the regular season and Showcase, leading Ignite with 20.6 PPG during the regular season. By getting to the free throw line, Holland maintained solid efficiency despite 24% 3-point shooting. He also filled out the box score with strong rates of rebounds, steals and blocks.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospects
Great info Snidley! Clingan shows strong in many ways but I’m more interested in how he projects Sarr, Risacher and Furphy. I get Sheppard’s stat projections but this does nothing relative to defensive impact at the next level (other than steals I suppose), where I see Sheppard having significant weakness.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Is it a no brainer that if we do get the no1 pick it'll be Sarr?

IDK if it's a no brainer, but I certainly understand it.
