Re: 2024 Draft Prospect: Ron Holland
He is a wild one, because out of the 4 guys I have made individual threads for I think his floor is the lowest.
My thought process with these 4 threads is assuming we have the #1 pick. I think these 4 guys are the most likely to be the pick.
Now if we fall to pick 4-7 then we probably need to create more threads, but I don't see much value in taking anyone other than these 4 guys with a top 2 pick IMO.

Measurements will be very interesting as will the workouts. I think he will rise quite a bit, or, alternatively, fall quite a bit.

I fear this dude must be dumb as a box of rocks. Maybe I find that out and get off him as a top guy, but the vast majority of draft analysts that watch primarily film and spreadsheet out stats seem way higher on him then draft guys with "sources". Strange vibes.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospect: Ron Holland
In terms of fit with the current team, I would probably take him #1. I think Topic is a slightly better prospect, but Holland pretty much checks all the boxes of what we need.
Melo and Miller are finesse players with good size and great shooting. I won't be mad if add another shooter, but in reality, that shouldn't be a deal breaker. We need a guy that change the game with his athleticism and physicality and that is what Holland does, he has the tools, motor to be a disruptive perimeter defender especially early in his career when we won't be expecting much from his offensively so him being aggressive and picking up fouls isn't the end of the world.
He averaged 19+ ppg in the Gleague this year while being very raw, his jump shot and handle are going to improve and he has some impressive passing flashes as a big wing averaging 3.3 apg per 40. Offensively I think he can turn into a Kuminga type of player down the line.
Castle and him have some similarities except Holland is 2-3 inches bigger and he has shown to be a much more aggressive offensive player. Holland is also 9 months younger. Holland had 44 dunks in 29 games Castle had 23 dunks in 34 games.

Holland has been an on-ball usage monster for his G League squad. I don't know how well that translates to the Hornets with a hopefully healthy LaMelo and a 2nd year jump from Miller where you hope the ball is in his hands more.
If you're pitching Holland simply as BPA and you figure out the rest later, I can maybe get behind that but I struggle to see the long term fit in a cohesive offense. I just don't see a guy like him playing second fiddle, when we just haven't seen him off-ball.

Prior to Gleague, Holland was seen more as an MKG type of player. Really good defender, hustle player, transition, did his work on the boards... so even though he struggled in the Gleague with efficiency he showed more offensive tools then what many expected.
My view is Holland becomes the junkyard dog of the team where he guards the other teams best player, is another play finisher for LaMelo in transition and just overall gives the group a boost of athleticism. If the offense comes along in the first few years and he can become an 18 ppg scorer then you have a chance of a 2way wing all-star archetype.

Re: 2024 Draft Prospect: Ron Holland
I can’t get past a couple of major question marks with Holland;
Are his turnovers and bad plays forcing the ball due to being a knucklehead with low BBIQ or just youthful inexperience? It’s a real problem with his game, and I don’t want that coming to this team.
Can his shooting be refined or are we considering drafting a guy who will be another perpetual low efficiency scorer? I’m not convinced he will improve enough to be worthy of a top 6 pick in this draft.
If you want to take a chance on a defensive player who might not ever be much of a shooter, I’d prefer Castle over Holland; neither if we have a top 3 pick.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Anthony Edwards basically had the same concerns that Holland has...

Re: 2024 Draft Prospect: Ron Holland
Despite G League Ignite's rough record, Ron Holland averaging 19.5 points at 18 years old still took a high level of athleticism, developing creation and shotmaking capability.
Being a No. 1 option on a team lacking high-gravity scorers and playmakers played an obvious role in Holland's high turnover rate and three-point inefficiency.
Even without consistent shooting early at the next level, he should continue to be an offensive threat off his open-floor speed, first step in the half court, improving ball-handling, capable jumper and finishing tools.
The ball-handling flashes are the biggest reason to remain optimistic about his potential trajectory as a scorer. He pulled off some impressive moves changing direction and getting to spots despite not being known for a creator. And as the season moved along, Holland learned how to slow down and change pace more effectively.
Holland has shown he can make tough dribble jumpers and catch fire in certain games when his confidence is up. For a prospect whose explosion and foot speed should translate to easy baskets, rim pressure and defense, and whose creation is getting sharper and expanding, just reaching a Jaylen Brown level of shooting could be enough for Holland to become one of the class' top scorers and players.

Ball handling by a wing is one of my biggest factors. In order to be a high end scorer in the NBA you need to be able to beat people off the dribble and draw help defenders.
If Holland truly can get to his spot and get tough buckets then he will rocket up boards

If this guy improves his jumper he's going to be a great player. I'm a fan
I'd take him over Castle who is his closest comp in his draft range

i need that false hope. Now just need footage of Ball working out his legs and Miles Bridges joining AA and studying defensive strategies.
