The whole thing feels like MJ being insecure that people have started to talk about LBJ's greatness as being on par or even greater than his... Seems like MJ is trying to get back into the spotlight to change that narrative.

Do we know for sure he's getting 8 figures to only do pre-taped segments from his house?

Why not do it live, unless he's worried about saying something that's considered stupid by people/fans? Are fans going to consider him must see at halftime if he's not even going to do it live?

MJ's been obsessed with his image since the 80's. I can't imagine he'd change.

I don't know how much Jordan has put on golf bets or at casinos or card games, but I've heard rumors and none of them involved gambling.
Because how much money would Jordan need to put on a bet for it to be a "gamble"?
It would have to be hundreds of millions of dollars, and I've never heard of him betting anywhere near that amount.
As Jordan said, he's got a "competition problem" not a gambling problem...
Gambling would require a financial risk.

It came off to me like he was saying he was doing it for the love of the game and not money because that money is chump change (to him).

I think he's pretty much just too big to be a live analyst.

MJ made the Hornets/Bobcats sell 2nd round picks to save money despite the team being bad, he definitely cares about money above most things.

I think he took the NBC job because he wants to be around when LeBron is retiring so he can downplay him though.

Here's the interview for folks who didn't see it. I didn't think it was a weird comment, personally. Rich guy briefly mentioning that he's rich.

Here's the interview in question. Start at the 1:58 mark:

MJ made a comment about paying it forward and his obligation to the game of basketball, not financially. That could be interpreted that he wants to give back to the game in a form that's not financial (like not being an NBA franchise owner).

I don't really think there's much to talk about with that offhand comment. People read too much into things sometimes.

It was a nothing comment. He was essentially just saying he wants to share his experience for the love of the game.

Its ready odd some of you read this much into a small normal interaction comment like that.

It's an addiction not an IQ test.

I have no idea whether Michael is in financial difficulty or not but billionaires have wasted their fortunes through gambling addictions before.

Harry Kakavas made millions selling properties on Australia’s Gold Coast before losing nearly $1 billion at Melbourne’s Crown Casino. Between 2005 and 2006, he gambled away approximately A$1.47 billion (about US$984 million).

Kakavas mainly played baccarat, a simple card game where players bet on which hand will get closest to a total of nine. The game moves quickly, making it possible to place many high-stakes wagers in a short time.

In May 2006, Kakavas lost A$164 million (around US$105 million) in less than six hours. He sometimes bet A$300,000 on a single hand.

In the context, I actually thought he was saying he has an obligation to the game of basketball, but not from a financial standpoint, lol. That's what it sounded like to me, not this interpretation.

People have been doing that for years, and he all of a sudden just woke up to it? That's odd, lol

I guess we'll have to see what this segment looks like first before determining what he might or might not be trying to do, because so far, there's nothing juicy going on.

From his living room, part time, for random games he can't do it live? What could he (or any other person for that matter) say pre-recorded that would provide insight on the first half performance of the 2 teams?

Jordan gets a $300M+ royalty check from Nike every year, I’m pretty sure he’s doing ok financially. He’s clearly doing this because he sold his team but wants to stay connected to basketball/the spotlight.

I thought it was cool to hear him in a more introspective mood talking about his desire to pay it forward to the next generation.

If I had to guess, he'll be doing some live analysis but only on occasion. It just doesn't seem like that's what he was brought in to do. I think we'll mostly see pre-recorded segments with him talking about generally about the NBA.

I don't feel like going into the full rabbit hole here but there were rumors that MJ's dad was killed because of MJ's gambling debts and that was part of the reason for the early retirement mid career

not because i want it to be true but just from what i watched......im more apt to believe jordan is actually in bad shape and nearing his end and now wants to be nice after years of being adored but still a prick.

at times it looked like jordan wanted to cry. his facial expressions/movements suggested something more than the meaningless banter.
