If this isn’t coaching malpractice, I don’t know what is. This kind of seems like taking advantage of a player knowing he’s on the last legs of his career.

You have JJ who’s healthy, but not 100% and because of that you won’t play him. And you’re going to use Wentz and no doubt his desperation to use any chance he has to prove he still has something. To eat up time as you’re trying your best to get your young QB healthy/prepared.

If JJ really was so hurt he couldn’t play. Then just play Brosmer. You don’t toss a guy out there with a torn labrum and fractured shoulder socket to eat up time. I don’t know how any doctors didn’t step in and say no to this.

Wentz went from being a fun punching bag as a fan. To now feeling really bad for him.

this is terrible, reminds me of the 2017 outback bowl where the hawkeyes kept cj beathard out there for almost the entire game even though he was clearly injured and playing terribly because of it :nonono:

and didn't i read somewhere that the injury wasn't going to get any worse from playing, just a pain management thing? so they could have put him on IR like two weeks ago?? :noway:

its this kind of stuff that makes the football gods angry with us. probably won't get a super bowl title in my lifetime because of this. karma is important dang it!

Having a Purdy moment would be good for Minnesota staff, wouldnt it? It pretty much saved Shanahan's job.

It's Really Not that bad. Just think of it this way. I oversee a whole entire staff. Front office personnel. Head Coach and staff. AND THEY WILL ALL BE FIRED. Some may not be able to get rehired anywhere. All because we are trying to protect our Big Gamble Mccarthy.
On the other side, this guy's got millions. He can patch himself back up. And will most likely get another job again in the future.

Of course Wentz wanted to play, I think he knows his career is basically over. So he's going to grab at any opportunity he can have to maybe show he still belongs. But when a guy has a torn labrum and a fractured shoulder socket. Then to add onto that, he isnt play well and after each possession it almost looks like he needs to be carted off the field.

#1. Its up to the coaching staff to save him from himself.
#2. He's clearly unplayable

McCarthy has been cleared to play the last 2 games. And KOC continues to come out and say he wont play him until he is 100% healthy. That's hard to swallow as Wentz is in agony after possession. And you have another backup who by many accounts was the best QB during training camp and preseason. Just play him if you want to coddle McCarthy to this level.

i'm sure he did want to play, he's a competitor at the highest level of his sport - makes complete sense he would want to keep going
and if he was playing well and the game was close with a chance for us to win, maybe you continue to send him out there - but he wasn't playing well and we didn't have a chance to win the game

at some point, someone has to be the adult in the room. koc should have pulled him aside (i don't know when) and said "hey, you just don't have it tonight - none of us do - and every time you get hit or throw the ball it looks like you are being stabbed with knives. i know you want to keep going, but i'm taking you out"

if you don't feel comfortable with brosmer doing anything out there, just run the ball every time so all he has to do is hand it off (could have done this with wentz too), or if you really don't want brosmer on the field, just wildcat it every time or kneel it on every play. yeah it would have been a bad look but the whole game was a bad look

100% agree with all of this. And on top of all of this, if it really was just KOC didnt feel comfortable putting Brosmer in the game. Why have him on the active roster? Its not like he was some highly touted draft pick, he was an undrafted free agent that at the start of the camp no one thought he was even going to make the active roster.

So if that's the case, the second you find out Wentz completely tore his shoulder up but you were still going to try and ride with him. Go out and get a different backup, if you have no faith in Brosmer. Give a call for guys like Zach Wilson, Drew Lock, Jameis Winston or so on.

Dont just sit there and ride with Wentz who isnt playing well and is clearly in need of season ending shoulder surgery and an UDFA rookie QB that you clearly have no plans on playing.

100% there is politics involved. Let's say KOC is convinced he cannot win with McCarthy. Kwesi is a bad GM so I think KOC's primary goal for this season, since it's lost anyway, is to get Kwesi fired. To achieve this he needs to be looking like he is doing a good job, while the GM's premier QB pick sucks. Which means there also can't be an injury excuse for McCarthy. Wentz was just collateral damage caught in the middle.
