Jason Wilde: Your Thoughts
Do you like Jason Wilde? How do you think he is as a reporter? Does he seem like a cool guy to you?
I first discovered Wilde by listening to him on Homer. I really liked him from there and began occasionally reading his articles. When he moved to ESPN, I started following him on twitter and at the start I liked him, but lately, all his tweeting at players is getting annoying. Furthermore, for some reason he has created an account for his baby, which seems really weird. I am starting to not like him, what do you think?

Re: Jason Wilde: Your Thoughts
I think he is a good reporter/writer. I also follow him on Twitter and don't really have a problem with him "tweeting" players because they are more likely to respond to him than an average guy like me and getting firsthand insight is never a bad thing. I also like that he doesn't seem to be a big Favre guy and isn't afraid to call him out. Just my two cents.

Re: Jason Wilde: Your Thoughts
I think the Packers board is probably safe for them to read but people who don't know any better should really stay away from the Brewers board

Re: Jason Wilde: Your Thoughts
I do like the baby, the baby is cute. I guess I wonder if other reporters do that. I mean if it is your job to cover someone, is it wrong to be friendly with them on twitter? I don't know the answer, my gut feeling is no, it crosses some sort of professional boundary that has always been there. So I guess my question is if those boundaries are a good thing? I think they are because if you are supposed to be reporting on someone, what you write could be influenced by whether you like them or not (I am not accusing Wilde of doing this, just sayin').

Re: Jason Wilde: Your Thoughts
I see Greg Bedard being friendly with Packers players on twitter all the time.
I don't think there is anything wrong with building up a good reputation of being friendly with players.
Just like Jay Glazer is friendly with players on twitter and works out with a lot of them(Ryan Grant in particular but I know Will Blackmon has reached out to him for some MMA training) in the off season.

Valid points. My guess is the baby Twitter is more of an inside joke with colleagues/friends, but that is just my thought. As far as him interacting with players, I think everybody is a fan first, no matter what their job is, but I could see where that could get dicey in some circumstances.
IIRC Bedard had a small tiff with a player on twitter last year (I believe it was Finley, but not 100% sure).

I've never met Jason or read his stuff. I think. But I've met Bedard and he's a ****. He's one of us.

I don't even follow Greg Bedard. I like how they are acting like their reporting style isn't something that can be discussed on a message board.

Bedard writes a blog on the JS site. It might as well be an informative posting you see around here with better grammar. I don't get the tone of his writing you're implying at all.
The JS gets killed around here for its Bucks coverage and rightly so. But the Packers and Brewers coverage is about all you could hope for from beat writers; they do pretty solid job in my opinion. Talk shop with these guys and they'll hold their own.

Re: Jason Wilde: Your Thoughts
I meant I don't follow Bedard on twitter... The Bucks coverage is lacking.
Most of the media members I've met in the past year have been very cool, though I was a little down on Rod Burks because he just seemed to think that he was really cool. I understand that these people have lives to and it is hard to reconcile if you should have a separate twitter for personal/work.
My point is I like Wilde way more on the radio than I do on twitter. I don't think this thread is very controversial. Then again, it is their livelihood, so I can see why they would take it personally.
All that really matters is if their bosses think they are doing a good job, and in Wilde's case, I'm pretty sure his bosses do.

Re: Jason Wilde: Your Thoughts
As someone who has despised Favre since the 4th and 26 game, I like Wilde. For those who don't listen to him on 540am he doesn't have the best of relationships with Favre to say the least.
As far as his relationship with players, it's a catch 22. On the one hand you don't want to get too chummy and risk compromising your integrity or credibility. On the other hand, getting close to people is how you get your scoops. A perfect example of this is Al Harris. I may be a bit off on the details, but I think Al invited him to his wedding or vice versa, which may raise some eyebrows. But Jason was also the 2nd person he called after he signed his most recent extension. I guess that's just the thin line you need to straddle.
I'm sure I will meet him out one night while I'm piss drunk just like I did with the rest of the 540 guys over the past 3-4 years.

I kind of wish Bedard didn't post that link. I'd rather not have people that post on jsonline discover this place.
Seriously. I think half of them huff paint.

If you ever want a scary look inside the mind of an average Packer fan, reading the JSonline comments will do that for you. We need some kind of screening process to keep them out.

I don't know much about Jason Wilde's writing but he's on a local GB Packer show during the season and he seems decent and knowledgable. I guess I view his work as credible.

Re: Jason Wilde: Your Thoughts
I wish you could limit the amount of tweets you see from someone.
I don't really want to unfollow Wilde, but I also hate it when my feed is completely filled up with him blabbering nonsense like 30 times in a row.
Tweet important news topics, articles, don't overuse the account, people will unfollow you because it's annoying.

100% agreed, some of those comments just make you cringed. It reminded of me how bad the ESPN boards got back in the day, which made many of the good regular poster flock to this board.

I just joined twitter a month ago and its starting to annoy me - Brandon Jennings is the worst. He tweets like every minutes and nothing of note, def annoying. There are some interesting things on twitter but I don't know, I am thinking about stopping...its kinda dumb overall.
