Kevin Durant's lowest non-rookie eFG% of 50.9% is higher than any mark Kobe Bryant has ever reached in his career.

Kevin Durant first recorded a PER of 25+ in his third year as a starter. It took Kobe Bryant until his fifth year as a starter to do the same. Kobe has topped that mark three times in his full career. Kevin Durant has done it twice.

Kevin Durant has career averages of 26.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. Kobe Bryant has career averages of 25.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.

shrug. center's are more efficient scorers in the post than wings. doesn't make them automatically better scorers than wing players. see tyson chandler for example.

Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant would both be described as wing players by most, if not all, knowledgeable NBA observers.

I was really hoping that Kobe would score 37 points and then sit out the fourth quarter. That would REALLY make my day.

35/5/5/2/56% TS/9 TOV%/28+ PER> Anything Durant has done.
32/6/5/2/58% TS/26 PER> Anything Durant has done.
30/7/6/2/26+ PER with All-NBA 1st Team defense> Anything Durant has done.

And Kobe put up his numbers while being one of the best non-PG play-makers ever.

Durant is nowhere near prime Kobe as a passer/play-maker, or defender.

It's not even close.

Purely in terms of scoring, Kobe's 2-yr 05-07 stretch (34 PPG/57% TS/18 50+ point games/45 40+ point games/4 60+ point games) also destroys anything Durant has done.

Durant will never be as good as prime Kobe.

Mainly because Durant is nowhere near his prime yet.

I was almost sure he would go something like 15/40 FG tonight just to chuck those 38 points. I'm positively surprised.

i think fans in general lost out on a good show. Too bad. Kobe cuold have gotten it if he wanted it. Mike Brown wouldn't say no since Kobe sat out so many games with the shin injury.

As to Durant? Great player, but i dont see the same ceiling in terms of scoring as Kobe. He may prove all doubters wrong but if you go back to 21-22 year old Kobe, the signs were there that he'd be tearng up the league soon. Durant seems a great scroing with high efficiency but i dont see ridiculous runs from him. No knock on him, but in terms of godly-scoring sprees, i dont see it.

Durant is and will always be a more efficient scorer than Kobe, but this post is irrelevant towards Kobe and him caring about the scoring title... I think people overstate Kobe and "chucking". The old Kobe maybe would have played today for the scoring title. But this mature Kobe has his eyes set on the championship (even though the odds are highly against him and his team).

Kobe's usage rate of 35.7% in the 2011-2012 season (8th highest in NBA history) is the second highest of his career, only surpassed by his 2005-2006 season of 38.7% (the highest in NBA history). Kobe also averaged 23 FGA per game, the 3rd most in his career, during the 2011-2012 season. He averaged 21.5 FGA per 36 minutes in 2011-2012, which is the 2nd highest of his career.

Nash fans love to hate Kobe lol. It burns them up so cold hard stats keep them warm at night.....

Lol, I was wondering what was with the irrelevant post on a Kobe scoring title thread doing here. He even selectively decided to respond to only a portion to what I typed with even more irrelevant statistics. So many people wanted him to play so they could criticize whether he won the scoring title or not. But him not playing they mostly went silent.

I'm not even a Kobe/Laker fan, but I can still see this older more mature Kobe could care less about the scoring title and actually wants the ring (even though I don't think his team will make it that far this year).
