There's an interesting discussion going on about the trade on another Blue Jays forum http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.a ... &tid=87203

Law likes the trade, says Jays will only miss Nicolino and Marisnick, and the latter while still an above average prospect, is less well regarded than he was 10 months ago because of plate approach issues. Likes Hech's arm and glove but sees him as 2 Wins at best. For the Jays, Johnson ended the year strong and if he replicates that for a full season, he's 5-7 Wins, and moves ahead of Morrow who is ahead of Burlhe. The latter is a solid if declining inning eater and a pitcher of that calibre would have cost the Jays big money in free agency. Reyes may ever equal his contract year performance of 2011, but with his bat and other tools, is a 6 Win guy replacing a 3 Win guy at best.

finally he carves Loria another orifice. I'll make this my one allowable quotes from Insider.

Those limicolous owners are the greatest joke of all in this deal, rooking Florida taxpayers for a publicly-funded stadium, only to make one half-hearted attempt to fill it with a contending team, surrendering it after the season to return to their old business model, playing a skeleton-crew lineup while pocketing all of their revenue-sharing money. This isn't a bad baseball deal for Miami, but it's not a baseball deal at all -- it's a boondoggle, perpetrated by owners who have pulled one stunt like this after another, with the implicit approval of the Commissioner's Office. It's time for baseball to rid itself of Jeff Loria and David Samson by any means possible. Miami, the state of Florida, and the sport in general will be better off without them.

Amen.

Mind blown. We're not used to big things happening to our teams.

That said, I'm not as high on this trade as most seem to be (haven't read the thread). What we're giving up is nothing compared to other prospect hauls. Josh Johnson alone would command the entire haul in another trade, so that's not my issue. It's the contracts coming in that give me pause. A few years ago I would've been ecstatic about Reyes but I don't trust him to remain an above average SS and his contract is awful. If Esco returns to 2011 form then it's not much of an upgrade. As for Buerhle, he's solid but his contract is troublesome and his high HR/9 probably won't fare too well in the dome.

I'm thrilled about JJ regardless of injury concerns. We needed another #1 caliber starter.

If Rogers and AA continue to add onto this then I'll shut up but I'm afraid they'll see this as enough.

So long Jake Marisnick, you beautiful gazelle you.

Yup, you're correct. I thought he had at least one more after that. Huh. That doesn't make a lot of sense at that point... Oh well, whatever, if it helped Miami pull the trigger I couldn't care less.

I'd like this deal more if Moises Sierra was included.

Loria helped kill the Expos and now he's doing the same to the Marlins.

DrSteveBrule wrote:The fact of the matter is Rogers has made untold of amounts of cash strictly from the Blue Jays. Advertising dollars from 162 three hour games, an incredible amount of merchandise sold across the country with the new uni's and caps and the new MLB TV deal that I believe gives each team in the neirborhood of 55 million, means that Rogers can EASILY afford 120 million in payroll per year.

That's why I'm not going to go out of my way to thank Rogers for this. It's about time those money grubbers opened up their wallets and did their job as owners properly.

I'd been dying for something, anything to happen. On this forum multiple times a day everyday hoping for some news. I'm ecstatic the jays have capitilized on a huge void in the Toronto market. If they get off to a good start and are able to really continue this momentum, it could be the beginning of a tidal wave of blue jays excitement. I for one, am stoked for next season.

Since none of these guys have no trade clauses, can they not be moved again to a third team? I feel as though we still have at least one major trade chip in JPA. This is exciting! Plus, the raps won today. Sweet.

They can be moved, but they wont, they all fit a need for the jays. (atleast this season).

I think that the Jays will probably look to trade for most of the other assets they feel they need to put themselves in form contention. JP is a nice trade chip and by himself could probably be dealt to acquire a nice player to fill one of the two obvious holes you mention.

k this logic still baffles me. so a pitcher like buerhle would cost us too much in free agency to sign, so we need to trade for him instead. whats the difference in signing a pitcher like marcum to 10 mill a year and trading for a pitcher like marcum making 10 mill a year, other than costing us a prospect and it being someone else who bid the 10 mil. one year on the contract?

Folks lets not forget Happ, he was solid as a starter and a good #5, i dont expect the jays to get another starter, except for some AAA depth moves.

yea, we could have sign them in FA. but i think FO realized they can't wait for the rebuild and finally putting in the money to contend.

we could have gotten reyes and buerhle in FA, but Josh Johnson alone is worth all those prospects. i can't be mad about the trade going down. we kept our 3 top prospects

The biggest part of this deal isn't the players. It's the change in direction of the team. No longer can moves be made only if they allow for future flexibility. This has to be about winning now. There have to be more moves, too. And if a guy gets injured, or Ricky Romero sucks, there has to be a plan to get replacement pieces. This is all in.

i think a 1-year deal for melky cabrera to play in LF would be a low risk high reward move.

we still need a way to get rid of Lind. he is probably the worst DH in AL

love that idea, gose needs another year in the minors. And the jays need another lefty power hitter.
