Leland is the weakest part of the team !!!
Again today just like last year he leaves pitchers in way too long.
Example Villarreal who gave a run up yesterday leaves him in the 8th he gives up 5 more runs before he pulls him.
I was again yelling at the t.v. to pull him when he loads the bases when the score was still close 2-3.
This is just like last year were we lost 15-20 games between leland and the crazy old 3rd base coach we had.

Re: Leland is the weakest part of the team !!!
Leyland has no clue on how to manage a bullpen. Having Coke pitching to righties is just plain insane! He can't get them out consistently at this level
The Tigers split the first six games when I think they should’ve won five of them.
Leyland made last year more difficult than it should’ve been. I sense he’s going down that same path again in 2013.
I’m not panicking. I just think Leyland is brutal at managing his pitching, and his throwaway Thursday and Sunday games tend to let other teams hang around in pennant races longer than they should.

Villarreal again walked 3 straight walking in a run before Leland pulls him ,I was again yelling at the t.v. to pull him at the first walk Villarreal could not control his pitches everyone can see that.Leland aways waits too long and then the game is lost.

You mean last year when the Tigers went to the World Series?
I'm not saying Leyland is perfect but if you're going to bust him for every mistake he makes you should be recognizing him for all the good things he does as well.

I feel like they made the playoffs/W.S. last year despite Leyland, not because of him. the guy doesnt know how to handle a pitching staff and hes a little too conservative as far as baserunning (steals/hit and runs) for my liking. at least he finally pulled his buddy Lamont off of third base, he had to have been one of the worst 3rd base coaches ive ever seen.
I understand giving credit where credit is due, but there arent many times that I watch a game and think "wow, that was a great move by Leyland". he is pretty good at inserting certain guys in the lineup who go on to have good games at times, but thats about all hes good for (other than just managing the clubhouse) and some of that could be attributed to "dumb luck".

Is this the same thread from last year, or a new one?
Either way, the players like playing for him, and not all his decisions are as bad as people make them out to be. He's a fine manager, and he's more than capable of winning us a ring. I have no problem with him being here.
I think half the problem is that hindsight is always 20/20, so it's easy to sit here and second guess after the fact.

nah its a new thread, you can never have too many "Fire Leyland" threads, lol. yeah, its not really fair to constantly be 2nd guessing, but theres a diference between 2nd guessing after the fact and screaming at the TV before and then as our lead slips away while Leyland sits there with a stupid look on his face.

Central Division team steal totals since Leyland took over as manager.
Sox- 873
Twins- 801
Royals- 772
Indians- 643
Tigers- 545
I figured id do a little research to see if the numbers supported my view that Leyland is too conservative on the basepaths. I understand with the sluggers we've had in our lineups you dont want to run yourself out of an inning. but you have to keep opposing pitchers on their toes and not allow them to get comfortable with runners on base, as well as use the threat of a steal to pull infielders closer to the bags. Leyland basically negates those offensive advantages by never calling for steals, which im sure is something thats in most teams scouting reports.

Then you're clueless as to how many things the manager controls and makes decisions on.

as far as in game decisions go he was pretty much useless and his decision to put Lamont at 3rd base was a horrible one. but yeah as far as clubhouse and behind the scenes decisions go, im not very informed.

it was our starting pitching down the stretch that got us into the playoffs last year imo.

Agreed, but it's Jims style to ride out pitchers and let them get themselves out of jams, so he should get some credit.

Porcello, he could use some time working out his issues in the bullpen. Conversely, Smyly has earned a start or two. I would make this switch sooner instead of later.
Why is leland not doing this ?

Re: Leland is the weakest part of the team !!!
Drew Smyly entered the game in the bottom of the ninth inning in relief of Verlander and struck out the side in order on 14 pitches.
then leland takes him out of game and put in rondon in the 10th tampa get 3 hits and win game.
drew could have pitched 2-3 inn why pull him out when he strike out the side ,
fire leland we lost over 12 games this year because of managing by him.

2 out in the 9th inn fielder on first next batter hit a double fielder out at home game over and was lost by leland
(15th game this year lost by leland)
And you say why ? well he could have put kelly pinch runner and can play fielder position and he would have reach home and to tie the game ,tigers would have gone to extra inn. 9/14/1013
