i wanted a WR maybe in the 3 rd round
we need defence real bad and all our DB's get hurt every year so it's good to have extra

Re: Lions at 5....Draft Night Thread!
i'm upset, so we draft another corner? because using 3 picks last year wasn't enough? maybe project safety? we could have used a WR or OT with that pick

Apparently the Lions had a 1st round grade on Slay, and they promised him they'd draft him if he was there in the 2nd. You can't say Mayhew didn't learn from the Millen/Ray Rice debacle.

Re: Lions at 5....Draft Night Thread!
if we were going to address the corner situation, why didn't we just go after Millner who is a has a higher grade and then Gholston in the 2nd? or hunt? F* lions

Re: Lions at 5....Draft Night Thread!
So far, the Lions have addressed three of their biggest needs in the draft — defensive end, cornerback and offensive line. Look for them to target a wide receiver or tight end Saturday.

Love Warford...dude is a road grader. Immediate starter at Guard.
Don't love the Slay pick but I guess I could be swayed

Love Slay and Warford. Best 2nd and 3rd round picks in years. Sims in the 4th a great blocking TE would help or a linebacker.

Re: Lions at 5....Draft Night Thread!
Funny how much a third round pick can change the tenor of your whole draft, huh? Warford was an out-and-out steal, will start from day one, and will improve the entire offensive line.
So far, I actually think the Lions have done a really solid job, and I think that's kinda what's available this year — the opportunity to add solid starters and contributors throughout the draft. Slay could easily be our #2 CB, and at the very least will play a lot in nickel and dime packages (which are practically starting positions nowadays). Like I wrote, Warford is a plug-and-play-and-forget-about-him OG. We already have our superstar players, and this draft was tailor made to add multiple supporting cast players to build around them, so that's what we're doing.
And Kellmellus, good list of available WRs you generated. I think we need to add Corey Fuller of Virginia Tech, but otherwise I think you nailed the guys we'll be looking at tomorrow.

Re: Lions at 5....Draft Night Thread!
My Feelings about this draft
!st pick: Ziggy Ansah
Considering what was available , and i'd trust there was nothing enticing to trade down. i like the pick only because Schwartz was able to look at him coaching the senior bowl, and Schwartz has a point. Why would he draft a project in a year where his neck is on the line. i think its reasonable to say that our coaches have a better idea of what he's capable of than we can hope through youtube clips. If they are right about him, our D-line is going to give this board a boner
2nd: Darius Slay
When i saw this pick , i absolutely hated it. This pick basically threw away the 2 cb's we picked last year. HOWEVER when i saw the 3rd round pick, and let it settle, i was a lot more comfortable with this pick. The CB concern is pretty much gone, we know who our secondary moving forward and this guy apparently has huge upside. Bentley, Greenwood and Green are going to battle, i wonder if coaches are considering moving some of them to safety. We potentially have a elite defense if these kids can touch their upside next season.
3rd: Larry Warford
Truth is idk know much about this pick, from what i've read we got a steal. We addressed 3 areas of need with talent, and protected our 100 million dollar QB with a day 1 starter who has high upside. WR is still a area of concern however, we have 2 of the best players in the nfl on the offensive side of the ball, and a couple more rounds to draft one with a ton of upside.

Torn meniscus is not a big deal at all.
