Last time AL was coming off this injury he played in the playoffs with us, played with the DR National Team in the summer and still struggled to regain his form/conditioning/timing once he returned the following season.

Not sure what effect this will have on his recovery, but it sounds like doctors are taking no chances this time around.
Now it's up to Ferry to get actual depth at the position and help prevent this going forward.

With your permission, UGA...

This injury has NOTHING to do with playing the C position...No amount of playing Center will make his pecs detach from his bone. It simply has NOTHING to do with it.

Rip2137 wrote:The REALISTIC reason's Horford could have torn his pecs are horrible form on bench pressing, overworking himself in the weight room(if you want to argue this is because he is playing Center, go right ahead...this is the only route for your argument here) naturally weakened tendons(which it appears the doctors have ruled out), a previous undiagnosed tear or PED's.

Never let it be said I was unwilling to admit when I was wrong...and I got this one WAAAY wrong.

Although he cut an impressive physical presence, Al Horford’s right pectoral muscle had been tearing for years, perhaps as far back as his days at the University of Florida...Surgery revealed scar tissue in Horford’s right pectoral. He said doctors believe the tear was a result of his weightlifting workouts from his college days and he has since changed his technique. He no long works on his upper body with bench presses and overhead lifts, concentrating now on his core and legs more than his upper body.

Kudos to RIP for calling this one. And I offer apologies. The issue sounds like it was deteriorating for years, and I still very much believe Horford would be beastly at PF.

But I concede, the injury itself was indeed caused by poor workout techniques.

I make no excuses or caveats. I simply got it wrong.

(I'll mark this one off the predictions list.)

Horford progressing as we approach the regular season:

The return of Al Horford took another step forward this week when the Hawks center began doing two-on-two contact work. Horford said he has been doing the limited contact work for the past three days.
Horford is returning from a torn right pectoral muscle that required surgery in December. The team expects him to be ready for opening night. However, they are bringing him along slowly since it’s the second time he has tore a pectoral muscle causing him to miss most of a season. He must next be cleared for three-one-three, four-on-four and finally five-on-five contact.

He's...back. More or less. Let's hope to goodness we never have to use this thread again.
