Lebron is very smart. And I don't say that about a lot of athletes. But it will probably take time for Waiters and possibly Kyrie to be able to internalize and understand what he has to show them. I'm sure they want to listen, but it won't be overnight.

Irving has already gotten paid, so he should be easier to control, but Waiters hasn't ... and 4th options simply don't get big contracts. In his mind, every game that he gets 10 shots or less is costing him money.

Why would he? there isn't a better situation for him now or going forward for him to win.

He's ok with losing a few games to figure stuff out, he knows that it will come down to beating the Bulls to make it to the finals.. So he has like 90 games to get it going lol

LeBron Trying New Leadership Style As Cavs 'Play Selfish Basketball And Lose'
Nov 05, 2014 10:14 AM EST

LeBron James jogged through his final minutes in the Cleveland Cavaliers' 101-82 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in what appeared out of character and led to speculation that he may not be right physically.

James had a minor back issue during training camp, but this is a leadership choice rather than a physical ailment.

James "plans to operate in a passive-aggressive mission to yank some teammates toward his way of thinking. Let some of them fail at their way so they will be open to new ideas, is what it looks and sounds like," write Windhorst.

"Everyone wants to win, I would hope," James said. "Would you rather play selfish basketball and lose, or play unselfish basketball and sacrifice and win? So you pick it."

Dion Waiters and Kyrie Irving dribbled and dribbled and shot and shot in the second half, shooting 19 combined times compared to James' four.

Irving shot 3-for-17 in the loss and left before speaking to the media.

"My mission is not a one-game thing," James explained. "We have to do multiple things in order to win. We got to share the ball. We got to play defense. We got to sacrifice in order to ultimately win. And obviously when you're going through the process, it's not the best part of the process, but I'm looking at the end of the tunnel."

This makes me wonder if Lebron was using the passive-aggressive approach in the finals

Um, i disagree. This is they guy that bombed his own public image by hosting the debacle that was the Decision, thinking it was an awesome idea. Also the guy who ran off his mouth about how easy it was going to be in Miami, and promised 8 championships. He also was the defacto GM in Clevland the first time around and couldn't bring in any real FAs that would help him. This is not a strategy guy. He needed Riley to steer the ship for him.

Not to mention all the other bonehead stuff that he says including how the first Cavs game was one of the most significant sports moments ever...

The passive aggressive behavior is not a very good showcase of leadership & management skills.

JR Smith got blamed for jacking up too many shots a few seasons ago, he did the same thing as Lebron and just stopped shooting the next game and basically caused a loss because the Knicks were playing 4 on 5 on offense.

And what about the fans who paid hundreds of dollars to see Lebron James in his return season? This could be some little kid's only Cavs game of the year and Lebron decides he's not going to really play?

Even without his back issues, James was already easing in to the season. He still looked pretty good against Chicago, though ... not so good against Portland. We'll have to see how things go. Funny thing is the Chicago game was on a back-to-back as is tonight's game.

As long as he's in lock step with Blatt, I'm all for this.

No coach anywhere wants any player, let alone his star player, to check out on the court. That just doesn't happen. This is all Lebron.

If Blatt wanted Irving or Waiters' attention, he'd sit them.

It's not about checking out. As a Heat fan I would think you would know how this works.
LeBron isn't just going to come back to Cleveland and start using the hammer on Irving & Waiters right away. Sometimes subtle nudge in the right direction is more apt to be received with open ears then a sledge hammer to the face.

Coaches do this all the time - Phil Jackson was notorious for letting a Kobe or a Shaq tie their own noose and Phil would pull them and the team back enough before they hung themselves. Sure you could use the SVG approach but that usually only works in short term gains. LeBron is looking big picture, championship picture. It's a long Season & he's been through the gelling period with a new stacked team thing before.

I'm not fan of his, but the hate he gets from certain fan segments and people talking about his body language 1st week of the Season is ridiculous. I'm ready to get my pitchfork out when Frankenstein's Monster comes out but LeBron isn't anywhere near that now.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Seems like he probably knows a lot more about what it takes to win a title than I do. It sure doesn't look pretty right now though.

After further evaluation, I figured out Lebron's body language: Spanglish. That is what happens to you after spending 4 years in Miami, you start thinking about the arroz con frijoles and your body parts start taking siestas on their own.

No worries Cleveland, nothing a good shot of "cortadito" can't fix. 8-)
