Stunning, indeed.

I guess this means they have full intention of re-signing Monroe then?

And who picks up Smith I guess is the next question.

My brain honestly went straight to "Is it April Fool's Day?" for a tiny fraction of a second.

That's obviously their angle. Saying to Monroe: "You're our guy. We'll eat 26mil of dead money to keep you here."

Stein is a pretty good source. He broker the Rondo deal last week and the Tyson Chandler trade in June.

SI and Y! Sports are also reporting, so I have to believe this is for real.

Smith has to clear waivers (which he obviously will) but then my understanding is that he's a free agent who can sign with anyone, and he still gets the full amount from Detroit?

5.2mil a year for the next 5 years, with the cap going up? I bet that doesn't even sound too bad to Pistons fans right now.

It really isnt. The team that picks him up could get a huge steal if they utilize him.

It's true.

It's on ESPN now.

Lakers can use their Nash exception to make an offer right?

Wow. I didn't know that Smith was that much of a cancer. He could be a great pick up for a contender though.
Handsome.

That's pretty incredible. But props to Pistons ownership for being will to eat that kind of money if they believe this to be an addition by subtraction move.

Curious who picks him up.

SVG really dropped the ball in the off-season. He actually had the opportunity to trade smoove and turned it down! How mind boggling is that!

As for whichever team ends up with him, i feel bad for them. The dude is just a cancer and I don't see sny scenario where he actually brings something to the table for a contender. Anyways, my gmoney is on Houston or Dallas. Both are contenders and him and Rondo/Dwight go way back.

Dallas seems like obvious choice to replace Brandan Wright and play with contender/his buddy Rondo

Id expect Kings and Suns to make offers too given their style of play and where they sit in WC to make playoff push.

Maybe the Bucks make a play.....who knows
