Korver struggling to find form after surgeries

Kyle Korver set for MORE surgery

KK is falling apart:

Kyle Korver wore a walking boot on his surgically repaired right ankle while modeling the Hawks new uniforms on Wednesday.

“It’s getting better,” Korver said following the presentation.

Korver underwent surgery for ligament damage on May 27, just days after he suffered the season-ending injury against the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals. The injury was not as severe as first feared.

and now...

Kyle Korver is scheduled to have surgery on his right elbow Tuesday, the team announced.

The procedure will remove loose bodies in the elbow that have bothered Korver, particularly late in the season. Korver, the Hawks starting shooting guard, has worn a compression sleeve on his shooting arm for much of the year.

A timeline for his recovery will be determined following the procedure. Korver said last week he expected to be ready for the start of training camp in September.

Any concerns with our 34 year old SG going through multiple surgeries in a single offseason?

Thoughts?
Predictions?

My first thought...

this really puts the Tim Hardaway Jr acquisition in better context. We needed another SG capable of scoring the ball and couldn't wait for a rookie to acclimate himself.

I get it.

I'd have preferred KCP or another young SG who has excelled on defense. But this makes sense. At his age, I wouldn't be surprised to see KK recover from surgery very slowly/carefully. I also surmise Bud will limit his PT even more moving forward.

Meh, same surgery that Joe had difference being that Joe actually had it during the season. See no issues, it's the offseason, this is when everyone gets tuned up.

That second surgery is a big nothing. Just cleaning out some junk. The ankle still bothers me though.

Not a big deal. Its prob a scope to clean up any debris, pretty common especially at his age. Ankle worries me more

Korver struggling to find form after surgeries

Kyle Korver was running down his medical resume …Because when a player is in his 13th NBA season and just a few months away from turning 35 years old...People start to wonder if age and wear has caught up with one of the NBA’s more prolific 3-point shooters …

“I’ve thought about that: Is it an age thing? I’ve actually thought about that a lot. I don’t think so. But you watch guys around the NBA and you think: What it does it look like? Is it a gradual thing? Or do you just all of a sudden fall off?”

But his shooting so far this season is not great, and that’s something only time, not surgery, can fix. Korver made two of four 3-point attempts in Wednesday’s win over the Philadelphia 76ers, who hope to be back in the NBA again one day. But that raised his season shooting percentage outside the arc to .400 (48-of-120) for the season, a significant drop from .492 last season, and .472 the year before, and .457 the year before that, and almost every season of his career.

This is no minor problem because the Hawks, are largely dependent on their 3-point shooting, and therefore largely dependent on Korver...Until that happens again, the Hawks will struggle.

Kyle Korver wrote:It was September before I could shoot without pain. Then I came (to Atlanta), and it was a week and a half before the season started...I had to generate a lot of momentum with a big dip and really bringing the ball up. It slowed down my shot and gave defenders more time to get to it.

...I’m kind of caught between two shots. I’m locking in on my mechanics, thinking about something when I’m shooting the ball, and it’s weird. But I feel like things are starting to come together. You’ve just got to have grace for yourself

I was surprised he was ready to start the season. I expected him to struggle coming off 2 surgeries and particularly with no off season training like he's used to doing. My hope is that by Allstar break he works out the kinks and his stamina is improved.
