NOW Dwight wants to come to Atlanta!!

Post#1 » by td00 » Mon Feb 15, 2016 5:05 pm

Chris Broussard on Dwight Howard: “I’m told he would like to get to Atlanta.”

I sure would put the onus on Houston to get rid of him more than us wanting him.

The only front court in the league possibly better than Howard/Horford frontcourt...would be a Howard/Millsap frontcourt.

I'd say either Tiago/Horford straight up for Howard...or wait until Free Agency, trade Millsap for a bundle of young players, sign Howard and Horford to reasonable deals and go from there.

Good Luck with that. They are getting MAX deals.

Perhaps...but even LeBron, Bosh and Wade took less money to form up a super team and win TITLES!

They're both at that age where this is more or less the last chance they'll have to shape their legacies.

Would they possibly give up a couple of million each per season for the chance to contend for realz? Maybe.

Even young, greedy, arrogant cats like James Harden/Dwight realize after a few failed seasons that you can't do it alone.

The only thing that can save D12's legacy...is winning. Can this front office convince top players this is a place where a winner can be fostered?

This is where all that good, young, cheap talent we should have from solid drafting would come in handy.

Schroder/Bazemore/Rodney Hood/Bobby Portis/Rudy Gobert would be a fantastic core to back up Howard/Horford and a few vets looking to chase a ring.

My gut tells me that no team in the league is going to trade for Dwight Howard at the deadline. Houston will ask for the moon (similar with us and Al) and every GM is going to have flashbacks of all that the Lakers gave up for him only to watch him leave months after to sign in Houston.

Dwight is getting the max no doubt about it. Paying a guy that relies completely on his athleticism max money for the next 4-5 years when he will lose more and more of that athleticism as he ages doesn't seem wise.

Al straight up for Dwight is not smart at all.

Dwight is smart to come East if he can get it done. A better chance to the get to the Finals is the main reason.

He isn't going anywhere in the West. He needs a true PG to get him his touches.

HOT TAKE:

I dont think D12 cares about Titles and winning. I think he cares about getting as much money as he can get while he is in the league.

NOTE: I don't LOVE adding Howard to this team....

But Howard is an 8x All NBA selection and 3X Defensive Player of the Year recipient.

He is a dominant shot blocker/rebounder/post defender. And those are three things we need desperately on this team.

AL's career postseason numbers are 13 ppg and 9 rpg.

D12's career postseason numbers are 20 ppg and 10 rpg.

I love AL Horford. He is my all time favorite Hawk player...but it isn't even close. Dwight's impact and production is massively higher than Horford's when the games count most.

Agreed, anyone arguing about the potential contracts, only make the case TO MAX D12 and NOT MAX AH. hes a better player and I could argue , with half the work ethic of AH

Perhaps, but if I'm not mistaken...didn't Dwight turn down more guaranteed money from the Lakers (who owned his Bird Rights) to sign with a rising star in James Harden with Houston?

How about?

ATL out Horford and Teague
ATL in Howard and Jason Terry and Boston's 2016 1st rd. pick

BOS out David Lee and Sullinger and 2016 pick
BOS in Horford and M. Harrell

HOU out Howard, Terry and M. Harrell
HOU in Lee, Teague, and Sully

Really bad. If we want Howard we could just sign him in FA depending on Horford. No reason to give up Teague for old man Terry and a late 1st round pick.

No. Howard more than likely becomes a free agent and there's no if telling if he'll keep his word about resigning. So basically we'll be left with Horford and Teague for Terry and a 20 something pick.
Dwight left his Bird Rights in LAL to sign with Rockets - don't trust him.

Isn't it incredible how things turned bad so fast in Houston?

D12 could be more Bynum than the most dominant big man in the league.

He still has 5 years left to regain his stature, but perhaps too many off court distractions will not allow it.

If D12 wants to come home bad enough, he'll give a hometown discount to prove his commitment.

Bud is definitely in control of this team, and no reason to let someone come in and undermine that.

But D12 needs that PG that complements him, and its something he hasn't had since when, Jameer Nelson/Rafer Alston? I think his record with Nash on the court was around 11-7 total! That's such a small sample.

Dwight is clearly on the downswing of his career, relies on his athleticism, and is gonna want megabucks.
Al is in the prime of his prime, has a skill based game, and his megabucks is gonna be way less than Dwight's megabucks

Remind me again why we want to do this swap again? Dwight's about to enter the Andrew Bogut phase of his career soon.

Only makes sense if we think Horford is gone for sure and we have a shot at Dwight. I like the deal where we also send out Teague and get back Justise Winslow. Swapping Horford/Teague for Howard/Winslow is a nice quick retool.

I only caught part of it because I was out at lunch and the tv had no sound, but it looked like a talking head on espn was suggesting Millsap for Howard.

To which the Hawks should say absolutely not. An expiring Dwight is not worth Millsap, who's been far better and is under contract for at least another year.

Yikes. One guy criticizes him for being concerned with money over winning.

The other guy criticizes him for choosing a winning team in lieu of more money...

Seems like D12 is simply a lightning rod for criticism and disdain regardless of WHAT he does.
