Re: OT: Vince Carter @ 40yrs old - half court shot followed by between the legs dunk
I will shed some real man tears when VC hangs it up. He was a huge part of my childhood.
Not sure why people still cite him "not trying" in Toronto when the real story about what went down came out years ago.
Saying he "ruined" his career doesn't make sense either, since he aged gracefully while swiftly moving in to/accepting being an elite role player/6th man, while many other stars from his era like TMac/AI/Francis truly fell off in devastating fashion.

The amazing thing is how many so-called "stars" careers started after Vince's, and ended before Vince's. Bosh (unless he makes a comeback, which is doubtful), Brandon Roy, Yao Ming, Gilbert Arenas.....

Are you seriously taking shots at dudes who suffered career ending injuries and/or health issues?

yeah that was a cool vid. Too bad this thread is a disaster. Unless VC comes back to the Raptors it seems useless to post anything related with him on this forum. Better to post this stuff on general board or Grizzlies board.

Its pretty obvious hes pointing out the longevity of athletes in the case of carter is superior to others whose wear and tear dimished their career length.

Why use "so-called stars" then...?

sure.
except DD and Lowry have taken the Raptors to the playoffs more times and deeper than Carter did.
You have to give credit to the rest of the team on that one too though.
What did vince have here?
Look what Demar and Lowry have had, far more depth, far better fitting roll players, and honestly, when compared to Sam Mitchell, a better coach. Vince had Hoffa, Rafer, Cook, Moiso, palacio...complete trash.
Are you being willfully ignorant?
Leaving aside McGrady, he had guys like Antonio Davis, Charles Oakley, Doug Christie, Alvin Williams, Mark Jackson, Jalen Rose, etc. Not world beaters, but decent role players who were equivalent in their impact to the types of guys we have today in Patterson, CoJo, Carroll, etc. Hell people are spending another thread on this board comparing PJ Tucker to Charles Oakley (and I think that's an apt comparison in terms of their impact on the team).
Plus Vince pushed the team to bring on Olajuwon (which they did).
So to only highlight the dregs of those teams when talking about the help Vince has is like saying DeMar is carrying this team entirely on his shoulders helped only by useless stiffs like Aaron Gray, Tyler Hansborough, and Bruno.

That list is garbage excluding a 19 year old T-Mac and Christie(who were only here for Vince's first two seasons) . Jalen was respectable before he broke his hand vs GSW during his first season here.
Antonio Davis aka Mr. Inefficient stone hands was the worst second option a star wingman could ask for. Alvin Williams? Should have been a backup, Mark Jackson was washed, Oakley was trash, took terrible shots.... he was a poor man's PJ Tucker here. Just look at all their stats!
We surrounded VC with over the hill,offensively- challenged vets. But oh well that was in the past and we've come a long way since then. All praise to Masai..

Demar and Lowry have more to work with. Hell VC only ever had one other allstar playing beside him, and he was an injury replacement. Lowry should have been a multiple time allstar.
Lowry/Demar have had the better team.

Imagine if Vince had even Colangelo to build a team around him here, much less Masai.
My God there would be 3 or 4 championship banners hanging from the ceiling if Prime VC had Masai as his GM.

Duncan just didn't need that ****. He's too cool for that. He'd just show up, win the game and call it a night.

Re: OT: Vince Carter @ 40yrs old - half court shot followed by between the legs dunk
Wait was someone actually trying to say VC had higher talent surrounding him than DD? People don't seem to remember how much VC carried mediocre players while he was here. Do a quick search, see the players who were VC's teammates the last year he was here and then see how many more years those players were either good or even in the league (most were out of the league or barely playing a few years later). If VC had Lowry as his PG and this roster & this coach (yes the other coaches for the Raptors were that bad) and this Management team they would have been much more successful.
Heck if T-Mac & VC were around with this organization they both would have been lifers here. Context matters - this organization was a joke during T-Mac and VC's time here and both were used poorly and blamed for Ownership/Management failures and the fans ate it up.
and for anyone saying his career was a waste - you have no bball knowledge. This is a man that lots of people like Rick Carlisle, Kidd, Durant, Cuban, Allen Iverson, KG, Rod Thorn have only had great things to say about. He's practically a lock for the HOF and is respected to this day by the new generation who grew up watching him on TV. Yeah I guy who surpassed Larry Bird in points and is closing in on 25,000 pts, olympic gold, a few all nba, a bunch of all-star, longevity had a waste of a career...some of the posters in this forum are embarrassingly dumb about a sport they are supposed to follow...no knowledge of history. Just dumb posts.

Utter horse crap. You call those washed up bums players that can get Vince anywhere? Why don't actually give the guy talent and see where it gets you. Can't believe what I am reading.

Say what you want about the way his career in Toronto ended, but he was at one point more popular than Kobe and Shaq. If it wasn't for that, who knows what would have happened to basketball in this city. These fans who you see at the games today are kids who grew up watching Vince. The Raptors used to sell out even during losing seasons because of the impact he left behind.

Raptors fan can say what they want about VC's talent and "accomplishments" but in reality, he'll always be known as
the player that held himself back from greatness due to lacking .. "Killer instinct , work ethic , bc of laziness etc. He definitely had all the tools he just didn't work hard enough to be in GOAT conversation , he deferred to his natural talents instead of using them to become even greater."
See what outside raptors fans feel about VC here..
