I'm very interested to see what happens with Metcalf playing with a new QB - and frankly just in general. Dude is crazy talented, but he still doesn't seem entirely complete. He was generally well-suited to Wilson's strengths, but a QB who doesn't go downfield as much may not be able to utilize him to the same extent. Or, conversely, a QB who hits him earlier in the route may maximize his talents a bit more. I don't know, but curious to see.

His only issue really has been drops from time to time. Sometimes he will body catch balls. At least that seemed to be an issue early on his rookie season. I think he has improved on that however.

Last year he dealt with a foot injury for a good chunk of the season. But still played through it. So that's why his production seemed to be down a little. Wilson was injured. But the chemistry just seemed off between the two for whatever reason. He's still only 24. So he can get better. He's also a tremendous blocker due in part to his size. He doesn't really have any real weakness. Other than running a three-cone drill.

If Drew Lock is the starter, then I think it's a match. Will definitely be interesting to see how that develops.

KADARIUS TONEY
WR, NEW YORK GIANTS

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports the Giants would want a "significant return" in a trade involving Kadarius Toney.

Raanan added a Toney trade is unlikely ahead of the NFL Draft, and perhaps afterward. Toney fell out of favor with the team's new regime by not reporting to voluntary offseason workouts a season after he showed great promise -- dominating targets for a stretch -- while battling constant injuries. A first-round selection of the Giants' previous regime, Toney has no connection to Brian Daboll and the rest of New York's new staff. It sounds, however, like another team would have to make a heady offer to land Toney this offseason.

Walker favored in the betting markets to go first overall. That would be such a Baalke move. Passing on the established guy at the same position, who also has elite traits, to pick a guy who hasn't shown he can get it done. Granted Walker has huge upside, but Hutchinson has really good upside, too, and far less bust potential.

Some discussion that Baalke's animus toward Harbaugh could factor into his decision to pass on Hutchinson. That would be pretty funny/ridiculous.

Major leaks would also be on-brand for Baalke.

Wow. If that’s true he has a serious ego problem.

The sad part is, he lost two of his brothers this year too. He’s having the worst year ever:

TARIK COHEN
RB, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports RB Tarik Cohen suffered a ruptured Achilles' tendon while working out on Tuesday.

Cohen was streaming his workout live on Instagram when he suffered the injury. He missed all of the 2021 season because of a torn ACL he suffered in Week 3 of the previous year. The slew of injuries could bring Cohen's career to a close and will certainly keep him off a roster for the foreseeable future. Cohen was one of the league's elite pass-catching backs before 2020, catching 203 balls for 1,534 yards in his first three seasons.

Aaron Donald signs huge extension. Cap friendly this year. Rams all in. They are going all in the next couple of years. By 2024, the Rams will have over $100 million committed to just three players. That might be an NFL first. If they don't win another by that time, it might be a complete blow up.

COOPER KUPP
WR, LOS ANGELES RAMS

Rams signed WR Cooper Kupp to a three-year extension through 2026.

The deal is essentially a new five-year, $110 million deal that puts Kupp among the league's highest-paid wide receivers at $22 million per year. Kupp, 29 next week, said he didn't need to reset the wideout market, and he now slides in as the sixth-highest paid receiver behind Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins, A.J. Brown, and Stefon Diggs. Kupp is coming off an historic 145-1,947-16 line last year as the Offensive Player of the Year. He's the WR1 headed into fantasy drafts.

The Rams going all in. They know with Stafford at QB the clock is ticking, in two years they are going to be blowing the whole thing up. They have been using these restructures to free up cap space in the current year and then backloading the cap hits in later years. They know by then it wont be possible to state competitive

That's a really team-friendly deal by Kupp given he was utterly dominant last year. Hopefully Deebo comes in at or below that figure.

Browns signed Josh Rosen, and some in the national media are like, "Well obviously they won't go after Garoppolo." LMFAO on that one. Rosen was beaten out for a roster spot by Nate Sudfeld last year. He threw eleven passes last year for Atlanta, completed two for 19 yards, and threw two interceptions. In 2019, he had one TD and five INTs in 109 attempts. I was cautiously optimistic that Kyle would rehabilitate him, but the dude just doesn't have it.

Not saying the Browns are definitely going to pursue Garoppolo, but Rosen should have literally no impact on their decision whatsoever.

Kyler got the big bag. Better the Cardinals than 49ers having to pay out that kind of money for someone who hasn't produced in big games yet.

Though the Cards owned the 49ers last season.

But it's going to limit their roster depth unless they keep getting players on rookie deals to produce.

In 5 years Mahomes and Murray’s contract is going to look very modest. Wait till guys like Wilson, Lance, Trevor, CJ Stroud; Bryce Young; Will Levi’s; Tanner McKee; Caleb Williams; etc. sign their second contracts.

But how competitive will the Cards be in the next 5 seasons?

Are they going to let some key players walk because of Kyler's deal?

Maybe in a couple more seasons, the Rams will have to let players go.

49ers have to make hay while Lance is on his rookie deal but then by the time they pay Bosa and Deebo, they may not have that much more cap flexibility either.

Maybe Hawks rebuild in a couple of years if they can have a couple of productive drafts and find a franchise QB.

That seems to be their plan. This is a bridge year for them.

They brought in Tarvaris Jackson (2011) to replace Matt Hasselbeck for a year before drafting Wilson. This appears to be the plan. Drew Lock/Geno are the placeholders until they draft a QB next year or acquire one. Next years draft is considered a very good QB class.

It's still early but the consensus is that they had a good draft this year. A lot will depend on whether they can follow it up having an extra first next year. As well as finding the QB.

If they do those things, then they'll be in a good spot.

There is no doubt that this contract will hinder them long-term. Having a QB on rookie contract is the biggest competitive advantage going. That hasn't changed.

The Niners should be taking advantage of Lance on his rookie deal.

The Rams are in win now mode. Their window to win is now. So that should be their priority.

Aaron Donald is 31. Stafford-34.

They will have to rebuild at some point. Every team does.

LOL, you just made me laugh on this. I agree with everything you said. And Rosen at one time was considered a top college prospect coming out of the draft

Buc's center Ryan Jensen carted off with a knee injury yesterday. That's a potentially huge blow for one of the NFC favorites. Jensen was a pro bowler last year, and the Bucs are starting two new guards this year - granted one of them is Shaq Mason, who is a very good player.

This would potentially put the Bucs in competition with us for any FA centers, though the team doesn't appear inclined to pursue one. JC Tretter is still out there, though it seems like his injury issues may be pretty serious as he hasn't signed to this point.

Fins penalized their first-round pick in 2023 and third-round pick in 2024 for tampering with Brady and Sean Payton. They've been very active in the trade market - players and picks - and have draft capital to burn, but that offsets a lot of what they acquired in the Lance trade.
