I hear ya - and it's sound reasoning (at least as far as the Grizz front office goes). That said, they could have opted to not pick up Thabeet's option and just let him walk. My gut feeling is that he's being retained to either a) continue to develop in the hope that the 60 watt bulb finally clicks on or b) pair him with Mayo and other lesser assets to move for an "upgrade". However, I don't see either as likely.
