It wouldn't surprise me if when Mike Zarren gets a GM job, Hinkie would replace him as the Celtics' assistant GM.

Due to a prevalence of posters bringing up their pet themes in all sorts of off topic discussions and dragging every topic to where they think everything needs to be (be it Brett Brown, Okafor, Covington, McConnell or whatever it is) we are as board mods going to start being much tougher about enforcing on derailment. In particular:

Continuing to post the same pet theme(s) in multiple unrelated threads is derailing the conversation. Users doing this will be reminded of board policy, and failing to restrict posts to their relevant topics will receive formal warnings.

Qualm seemed to be working with the Colangelos. It was reported (believe by Tom) that he possibly would have stayed on if they hired his suggested candidate to share responsibilities with - supposedly Danny Ferry.

Well, I don't think that there is ever really such a thing as "sharing" authority. It is always one person with the power, and Hinkie knew that Bryan would have the power since Jerry was part of the equation.

I also doubt that they would even try to share power between Hinkie and someone else. He was going to be demoted, and he left on his own terms.

When he lands at a new team I'm sure that he will have full power. Otherwise he won't take it. There are too many other things for him to do to not control his own destiny.

Nerlens Noel: 100.7 (very similar to his rookie number of 100.4 when he played center)

• If Philadelphia had a poor record during the 2016-17 season and owned a top-11 pick in 2017, Philadelphia would have kept that pick for itself. In other words, it was simply impossible for Orlando to obtain a top-11 pick from Philly in the 2017 NBA Draft. (This is why this pick has been referred to for two years as a “protected” first-round pick. In the Dwight Howard trade, the Sixers had protected themselves from giving up a top-11 pick in 2017.)

• If Philadelphia had not conveyed its pick to Orlando in 2017, then the Magic were going to receive a conditional first-round pick from the Sixers in 2018. But that pick also had protections on it that benefitted Philly. If Philly once again failed to make the playoffs in 2017-18 and received a top-eight pick for the 2018 NBA Draft, the Sixers would have kept that pick. In other words, it was impossible for Orlando to obtain a top-eight pick from Philly in the 2018 NBA Draft.

That, and having Saric versus Patyon. And the high 2nd (which brought back 1.5m and 2 more 2nds).


Payton was always an awful fit with this team. And Orlando. But even more so Philly. Even if you are a big believer in Payton, he still doesn't ever make sense.
