22 Draft

Post#1 » by kasrok » Wed Mar 30, 2022 10:08 pm

Who are you all hoping we select with our top pick?

As a Pac-12 guy I love the idea of getting Benedict Maturin, the link below is the first mock draft I saw that places him with us. I have often seen AJ Grifttin from Duke and Johnny Davis out of Wisconsin. We also have three picks in the first round, would be interested if we trade up.

Want to update this here as well (I put it in another thread). This is where we stand with respect to our picks so far:

The 20th pick is for the Thad Young trade.

The 25th pick is for the Derrick White trade. I think there's also pick swap possibility in the future as well.

We also have the 38th pick in the second round.

I'll look in more detail at our prospects once we know where we're selecting in the lotto. Until then, it's early but here are mocks from a couple of the most prominent prognosticators:

ESPN

9. Jalen Duren | Memphis | C | Age: 18.4

20. Kennedy Chandler | Tennessee | PG | Age: 19.5

25. Kendall Brown | Baylor | SF | Age: 18.9

38. Leonard Miller | Fort Erie International Academy | SF/PF | Age: 18.4

Tankathon.com

9. Johnny Davis | Wisconsin | SG | Age: 20.18

20. E.J. Liddel | Ohio State | PF | Age: 21.37

25. Patrick Baldwin | Milwaukee | SF/PF | Age: 19.45

38. Hugo Besson | New Zealand (NBL) | PG | Age: 21. 02

They always have us picking a PG lol

Yeah its all a crap shoot now, just hoping we're able to secure a 'franchise' type player. I like our odds of 20.3% to get a top 4 that would be very interesting and imo beneficial as I'm not sold on the consensus top 3 of Smith, Holmgren, or Branchero. I like Ivey and supposedly Sharpe is that good.

WORKOUT: Keon Ellis | Our List of Draft Prospects

Read on Twitter

Both seniors are early entrant candidates for the 2022 NBA Draft. Collegiate players have until June 1st to withdraw their name from consideration to retain any remaining NCAA eligibility.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/more-sports/report-the-spurs-have-conducted-pre-draft-workouts-with-darius-days-and-keon-ellis/ar-AAWUT76

Ellis averaged 12.1 points and converted 36.6% of his shots from beyond the arc on 5.5 three-point attempts per game for an Alabama squad that ranked 13th in the nation in scoring last season.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/more-sports/report-the-spurs-have-conducted-pre-draft-workouts-with-darius-days-and-keon-ellis/ar-AAWUT76

Ellis, while a bit undersized to play the three, is a solid athlete and uses his physical tools to maximize his defensive ability. He's a player with quick feet and a high motor and has routinely shown an ability to guard multiple positions.

If we stay at 9 i'd like AJ Griffin, and then would hope maybe we can package the other 2 to grab Nikola Jovic.

Ive seen us linked to AJ Griffin in a few mock drafts, I like him but I think if available Benedict has an higher ceiling.

Also, as mentioned by Grey in the GB's, we're going to have the opportunity/cap space to try and sign some free agents. If we nail this draft + go for AND get a good signing (Ayton / Lavine ) We have the opportunity to battle for a top four seed.

WORKOUT: Dominick Barlow | Our List of Draft Prospects

Read on Twitter

The 18-year-old averaged 14.8 points and 5.9 rebounds on .530/.339/.764 shooting splits across 25 games for Team Overtime.

Barlow signed with Overtime Elite, a groundbreaking professional league that affords prep players an alternative route to the NBA outside of NCAA and G League Ignite basketball.

https://www.poundingtherock.com/2022/5/10/23066311/report-the-spurs-have-conducted-a-pre-draft-workout-with-dominick-barlow

Dom Barlow is one of the lesser known 2022 NBA Draft prospects but NBA scouts have taken notice. Playing with the new Overtime Elite league, he’s shown rapid improvement and is looking the part of a second round pick, with first round potential.

Dom is a versatile player on both ends of the floor. On offense he scores inside and out, can create his own offense and has a lethal mid range game. He can hit the 3 pointer, take his man off the dribble and has the size and strength to bang down low. He’s got excellent shooting form and a very project-able shot.

On defense he can guard all over the court, showing of his nice mobility, fluid hips and good anticipation. He’s a hard worker who puts in the effort needed to be a good defender.

WORKOUT: Diabate Moussa | Our List of Draft Prospects

Moussa is a very springy, quick-twitch athlete with great size and length. The Michigan freshman projects as a possible first round pick in the 2022 NBA draft.

Moussa is a plus athlete for his size and is very coordinated with excellent agility. He moves like a big wing but does most of his damage in the paint and from mid range.

Moussa shows promise on the offensive end and is much more than just a post player. He can put the ball on the deck and go coast to coast with the dribble and has range on his jumper.

He shows good court awareness and ability to find the open man and really seems to understand team concepts and play within the flow of the game and within the flow of the offense.

Moussa isn’t an intimidator in the paint but he has some rim protection ability and is a very aware defender. He’s a good help defender and shows good reaction as a weak-side shot blocker.

WORKOUT: Harrison Ingram | Our List of Draft Prospects

Read on Twitter

Read on Twitter

Read on Twitter

A big wing/forward with an all around game. Harrison can handle the rock, shoot it from deep and really understands how to play the game. Can play 1 through 3 and flashes play-making skills and can run the point or score from the wing.

He’s got a big solid frame and knows how to use his size. He can play above the rim, although he’s not an elite run/jump athlete.

Has grown to about 6-8 and at 230lbs he’s a load to handle when driving the ball to the hoop.

A very strong rebounder.

Has work to do on his outside shooting and his overall efficiency on the offensive end.

Seen him close up here. When he's engaged he can raise eyebrows. Not sure how his game will translate with NBA sized players but he's soo young he's worth a chance farther down in the draft. He seemed to disappear a few times this year but UofM did have a weird season and again, he's soo young, he's the type of player you take a chance on.

Return to San Antonio Spurs
